What Can You Do In One Minute

Praise be to Allaah.

Time is of the essence, it is too precious to be wasted or neglected. The wise person is the one who paysattention to his time and does not treat it as a vessel to be filled with cheap things and vain talk. Instead, he limits it to worthy efforts and righteous deeds that please Allaah and benefit other people. Every minute of a person’s life carries the potential to raise his own status andto make his people happier, little by little.
If you are keen to attain the highestposition, and bring the most happiness to your people, then forget about relaxing and keep away from empty amusement.

In one minute you can do a lot of good and earn much reward. In just one minute, by giving in charity, studying, memorizing, or striving to do good deeds, you can make sure that this minute of your life is not wasted. One minute may be recorded in your book of good deedsif you know how to make the most of it and take care of it:
Strive to make the most of each minute
If you forget it, you forget the most important thing, the truth.
There follows a list of things that can be done in one minute, by the permission of Allaah:

1. 1. In one minute you can recite Soorat al-Faatihah 3 times, reciting rapidly and silently. Some scholars said that the reward for reading al-Faatihah is more than 600hasanahs, so if you read it 3 times you will, by the permission of Allaah,gain more than 1800 hasanahs – all of that in one minute.

2. In one minute you can recite Soorat al-Ikhlaas (Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad) 20 times, reciting rapidly and silently. Reciting it once is equivalentto one-third of the Qur’aan. If you read it 20 times it is equivalent to reading the Qur’aan 7 times. If you read it 20 times in one minute each day, you will have read it 600 times in one month, and 7200 times in oneyear, which will be equal in reward to reading the Qur’aan 2400 times.

3. You can read one page of the Book of Allaah in one minute.

4. You can memorize a short aayah of the Book of Allaah in one minute.

5. In one minute you can say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god except Allaah alone with no partner; to Him be dominion and praise, and He is Able to do all things) – 20 times. The reward for saying this is like freeing 8 slaves for the sake of Allaah from among the sons of Ismaa’eel.

6. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaahi wa bi hamdihi (Glory and praise be to Allaah) 100 times. Whoever says that in one day will be forgiven for his sins even if they are like the foam of the sea.

7. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaahi wa bi hamdihi Subhaan Allaah il-‘Azeem (Glory and praise be to Allaah, glory be to Allaahthe Almighty) 50 times. These are two phrases which are light on the lips, heavy in the balance and beloved to the Most Merciful, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim.

8. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When I say ‘Subhaan Allaah, wa’l-hamdu Lillah, wa laa ilaah ill-Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar (Glory be to Allaah, praise be to Allaah, there isno god except Allaah, and Allaah is Most Great)’, this is more beloved to me than all that the sun rises upon.” (Narrated by Muslim). In one minute,you can say all of these words more than 18 times. These words are the most beloved words to Allaah, the best of words, and they weigh heavily in the balance of good deeds,as was narrated in the saheeh ahaadeeth.

9. In one minute you can say, Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa Billaah (there is no strength and no power except with Allaah) more than 40 times. This is one of the treasures of Paradise, as was narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim. They are a means of putting up with difficultiesand of aiming to achieve great things.

10. In one minute you can say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah approximately 50 times. This is the greatest word, for it is the word of Tawheed, the good word, the word that stands firm. If these are the last words of a person, he will enter Paradise, and there are other reports which indicate how great these words are.

11. In one minute you can say Subhaan Allaah wa bi hamdih, ‘adada khalqihi, wa ridaa nafsihi, wazinata ‘arshihi, wa midaada kalimaatihi (Glory and praise be to Allaah, as much as the number of His creation, as much as pleases Him, as much as the weight of His Throne and as much as the ink of His words)more than 15 times. This words bring many more times the reward for other forms of tasbeeh and dhikr,as was reported in saheeh ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

12. In one minute you can seek the forgiveness of Allaah more than 100 times by saying “Astaghfir-Allaah (I seek the forgiveness of Allaah). The virtues of seeking forgiveness are nosecret, for it is the means of attaining forgiveness and entering Paradise, and it is the means of being granted a good life, increasing one’s strength, warding off disasters, making things easier, bringing rain and increasing one’s wealth and children.

13. You can say a few brief and concise words in one minute, and Allaah may bring about some good through them that you could never imagine.

14. In one minute you can send blessings on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) 50 times by saying Sall-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (May Allaah bless him and grant him peace). In return Allaah will send blessings upon you 500 hundred times because one blessing brings ten like it.

15. In one minute you can motivate your heart to give thanks to Allaah, to love Him, to fear Him, to put hope in Him, to long for Him, and thus travel through the stages of ‘uboodiyyah (total enslavement to Allaah). You could do this when you are lying on your bed or walking in the street.

16. In one minute you can read morethan two pages of a useful book thatis easy to understand.

17. In one minute you can uphold the ties of kinship by calling a relative on the phone.

18. You can raise your hands and recite any du’aa’ you wish from the books of du’aa’, in one minute.

19. You can say salaams to and shake hands with a number of people in one minute.

20. You can forbid an evil action in one minute.

21. You can enjoin something good in one minute.

22. You can offer sincere advice to a brother in one minute.

23. You can console someone who is depressed in one minute.

24. You can remove something harmful from the road in one minute.

25. Making the most of one minute motivates you to make the most of other periods that would otherwise be wasted.

Al-Shaafa’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
When people go to sleep, I let my tears flow, and I recite a verse of the most eloquent poetry
Is it not a waste that nights go by and I do not increase in knowledge, yet this time is counted as part of my life?

Finally, the more sincere you are towards Allaah and the more aware you are of Him, the greater will be your reward and the more your hasanaat will increase.
Note that most of these actions will not cost you anything; they do not require tahaarah (purity) and they will not tire you out or take much effort. On the contrary, you can do them whilst you are walking, or in your car, or lying down, or standing, or sitting, or waiting for somebody.
These actions are also among the greatest means of attaining happiness, expanding the chest (i.e., bringing relief and joy) and removing stress and anxiety. May Allaah help us and you to do that which He loves and which pleases Him. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon Him).

Etiquettes of Reading and Handling the Qur'an al-Kareem

Etiquettes of Reading and Handling
the Qur'an al-Kareem
Imam Muhammad ibn Ahmad Qurtubi
_______________________________

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
By Him we seek Assistance.
Some people, of the Salafi persuation, consider that it is lawful to handle the Holy Qur'an when not in the state of wudu. As we shall see, this view is contrary to the practices of the real Salaf as-Salihin.
In Summary
It is unlawful (haraam) for someone not in the state of wudu to carry a Qur'an, even by a trap or in a box , or touch it, whether its writing, the spaces between its lines, its margins, binding, the carrying strap attached to it, or the bag or box it is in.

The opinion expressed in Fiqh al-Sunnah that it is permissible to touch the Qur'an without ritual purity is a deviant (shadh) view contrary to all four schools of jurisprudence (fiqh) that is Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali and is impermissible to teach (except to teach that it is deviant).
It is permissible to carry books of Sacred Law (Shari'ah), hadith, or Qur'anic tafsir, provided that most of their text is not Qur'an.
One should not use saliva on the fingers to turn the pages of the Qur'an.
When one fears that a Qur'an may burn, get soaked, that a non-Muslim may touch it, or that it may come into contact with some filth, then one must pick it up if there is no safe place for it, even if one is not in the state of wudu or is in need of the obligatory bath, though performing the dry ablution (tayummum) is wajib if possible.
It is haraam to use the Qur'an or any book of Islamic knowledge as a pillow.

Imam Muhammad ibn Ahmad Qurtubi
says in
al-Jami' li ahkam al-Qur'an
[Taken from Reliance of the Traveller]
It is the inviolability of the Qur'an
1. not to touch the Qur'an except in the state of ritual purity in wudu, and to recite it when in a state of ritual purity;
2. to brush one's teeth with a toothstick (siwak), remove food particles from between the them, and to freshen one's mouth before reciting, since it is the way through which the Qur'an passes;
3. to sit up straight if not in prayer, and not lean back;
4. to dress for reciting as if intending to visit a prince, for the reciter is engaged in an intimate discourse;
5. to face the direction of prayer (qiblah) to recite;
6. to rinse the mouth out with water if one coughs up mucus or phlegm;
7. to stop reciting when one yawns, for when reciting , one is addressing one's Lord in intimate conversation, while yawning is from the Devil;
8. when begining to recite, to take refuge from in Allah from the accursed Devil and say the Basmala, whether one has begun at the first surah or some other part one has reached;
9. once one has begun, not to interrupt one's recital from moment to moment with human words, unless absolutely necessary;
10. to be alone when reciting it, so that no one interrupts one, forcing one to mix the words of the Qur'an with replying, for this nullifies the effectivness of having taken refuge in Allah from the Devil at the beginning;
11. to recite it leisurely and without haste, distinctly pronouncing each letter;
12. to use one's mind and understanding in order to comprehend what is being said to one;
13. to pause at verses that promise Allah's favour, to long for Allah Most High and ask of His bounty; and at verses that warn of His punishment to ask Him to save one from it;
14. to pause at the accounts of bygone peoples and individuals to heed and benefit from their example;
15. to find out the meanings of the Qur'an's unusual lexical usages;
16. to give each letter its due so as to clearly and fuLly pronounce every word, for each letter counts as ten good deeds;
17. whenever one finishes reciting, to attest to the veracity of ones's Lord, and that His messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) has delivered his message, and to testify to this, saying: "Our Lord, You have spoken the truth, Your messengers have delivered their tidings, and bear witness to this. O Allah, make us of those who bear witness to the truth and who act with justice": after which one supplicates Allah with prayers.
18. not to select certain verses from each surah to recite, but rather the recite the whole surah;
19. if one puts down the Qur'an, not to leave it open;
20. not to place other books upon the Qur'an, which should always be higher than all other books, whether they are books of Sacred Knowledge or something else;
21. to place the Qur'an on one's lap when reading; or on something in front of one, not on the floor;
22. not to wipe it from a slate with spittle, but rather wash it off with water; and if one washes it off with water, to avoid putting the water where there are unclean substances (najasa) or where people walk. Such water has its own inviolability, and there were those of the early Muslims before us who used water that washed away Qur'an to effect cures.
23. not to use sheets upon which it has been written as bookcovers, which is extremely rude, but rather to erase the Qur'an from them with water;
24. not to let a day go by without looking at least once at the pages of the Qur'an;
25. to give one's eyes their share of looking at it, for the eyes lead to the soul (nafs), whereas there is a veil between the breast and the soul, and the Qur'an is in the breast.
26. not to trivially quote the Qur'an at the occurrence of everyday events, as by saying, for example, when someone comes, "You have come hither according to a decree, O Moses" [Qur'an 69:24],
or,  "Eat and drink heartily for what you have done aforetimes, in days gone by" [Qur'an 69:24], when food is brought out, and so forth;
27. not to recite it to songs tunes like those of the corrupt, or with the tremulous tones of Christians or the plaintiveness of monkery, all of which is misguidance;
28. when writing the Qur'an to do so in a clear, elegant hand;
29. not to recite it out aloud over another's reciting of it, so as to spoil it for him or make him resent what he hears, making it as if it were some kind of competition;
30. not to recite it in marketplaces, places of clamour and frivolity, or where fools gather;
31. not to use the Qur'an as pillow, or lean upon it;
32. not to toss it when one wants to hand it to another;
33. not to miniaturize the Qur'an, mix into it what is not of it, or mingle this worldly adornment with it by embellishing or writing it with gold;
34. not to write it on the ground or on walls, as is done in some new mosques;
35. not to write an amulet with it and enter the lavatory, unless it is encased in leather, silver, or other, for then it is as if kept in the heart;
36. if one writes it and then drinks it (for cure or other purpose), one should say the Basmala at every breath and make a noble and worthy intention, for Allah only gives to one according to one's intention;
37. and if one finishes reciting the entire Qur'an, to begin it anew, that it may not resemble something that has been abandoned.

Date-Palm Trees Of Baysaan, Lake Of Tabariyyah And Spring Of Zughar

Hadith Of Tameem al-Daari About Dajjal

It was narrated that Faatimah bint Qays (may Allaah be pleased with her) said:

I heard the voice of the caller, the caller of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), saying: Al-salaatu jaami’ah (prayer is about to begin), so I went out to the mosque and I prayed with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). I was in the women’s row that was closest to the people. When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had finished his prayer, he sat on the minbar and he was smiling. He said: “Let each person stay in the place where he just prayed.” Then he said: “Do you know why I called you together?”

They said: Allaah and His Messenger know best. He said:

He said: “By Allah, I did not call you together for an exhortation or for a warning. I have called you together because Tameem al-Daari was a Christian and he came and swore allegiance and became Muslim, and told me something which agrees with what I was telling you about the Dajjaal (false messiah). He told me that he sailed in a ship with thirty men of Lakhm and Judhaam and they were tossed by the waves of the sea for a month. Then they came to an island at sunset. They sat in a small rowing-boat and landed on that island. They were met by a beast with a great deal of hair and they could not distinguish his face from his back because he was so hairy. They said: ‘Woe to you, what are you?’ It said: ‘I am al-Jassaasah.’ They said: ‘What is al-Jassaasah?’ It said: ‘O people, go to this man in the monastery for he keen to know about you.’ He (the narrator) said: When it named a man for us we were afraid of it lest it be a devil. Then we set off, rushing, until we came to that monastery, where we found the hugest man we had ever seen, bound strongly in chains with his hands tied to his neck and his legs bound from the knees to the ankles with iron shackles. We said: ‘Woe to you, who are you?’ He said: ‘You will soon find out about me; tell me who you are.’ They said: ‘We are people from Arabia who embarked on a ship, but the sea became wild and the waves tossed us about for one month, then they brought us to this island of yours. We took to the rowing-boats and landed on this island. We were met by a beast with a great deal of hair and we could not tell his front from his back because he was so hairy. We said: Woe to you, what are you? It said: I am al-Jassaasah. We said: What is al-Jassaasah? It said: Go to this man in the monastery for he is keen to know about you. So we came rushing to you and we fled from it because we could not be sure that it was not a devil.’ He (that chained person) said: ‘Tell me about the date-palm trees of Baysaan.’ We said: ‘What do you want to know about them?’ He said: ‘I am asking you whether these trees bear fruit.’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Soon they will not bear fruit.’ He said: ‘Tell me about the lake of Tabariyyah’ We said: ‘What do you want to know about it?’ He said: ‘Is there water in it?’ They said: ‘There is a great deal of water in it.’ He said: ‘Soon it will dry up.’ Then he said: ‘Tell me about the spring of Zughar (which is in the south of Syria).’ They said: ‘What do you want to know about it?’ He said: ‘Is there water in the spring and do the people grow crops with the water of the spring?’ We said to him: ‘Yes, there is plenty of water in it and the people grow crops with its water.’ He said: ‘Tell me about the Prophet if the unlettered; what has he done?’ We said: ‘He has left Makkah and has settled in Yathrib (Madeenah).’ He said: ‘Do the Arabs fight against him?’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘How did he deal with them?’ We told him that he had prevailed over the Arabs in his vicinity and they had shown obedience to him. He said to us: ‘Has it really happened?’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘If it is so that is better for them that they show obedience to him. Now I will tell you about myself. I am the Dajjaal and soon I will be given permission to emerge. So I will come out and travel in the land, and will not spare any town but I will stay for forty nights, except Makkah and Taybah (Madeenah). They are both forbidden to me; every time I try to enter one of them, I will be met by an angel with a sword in his hand, who will bar my way, and on every route there will be angels guarding it.’ She said: Then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) struck the minbar with his staff and said: “This is Taybah, this is Taybah, this is Taybah,” meaning Madeenah. “Did I net tell you this before?” The people said: Yes. [The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:] “I liked the story of Tameem because it agrees with what I used to tell you about him and about Makkah and Madeenah. But he is in the Syrian Sea (Mediterranean) or the Yemeni Sea (Arabian Sea). No, rather he is in the east, he in the east, he is in the east,” and he pointed towards the east with his hand. She said: I memorized this from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh (2942), so it is a saheeh hadeeth. It was also narrated by the scholars in their books, with their isnaads from Faatimah bint Qays (may Allaah be pleased with her). Al-Tirmidhi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Jaami’ al-Saheeh (2253): This is a saheeh ghareeb hadeeth. End quote. Ibn ‘Abd al-Barr said in al-Istidhkaar (7/338): It is saheeh in its isnaad and transmission.

Imam Mahdi (Descendent of Prophet Muhammad Peace and Blessings be upon Him)

Imam Mahdi (Descendent of Prophet Muhammad Peace and Blessings be upon Him)
by Mufti A.H. Elias and Mohammad Ali ibn Zubair Ali

 Who Is Imam Mahdi?

Note: Please do not confuse Imam Mahdi with Hadhrat Isa (Jesus) Alayhis Salaam. They are two different persons, and both will come during the last days. According to Hadeeth, Imam Mahdi will appear first, and Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will appear during Imam Mahdi's lifetime. Furthermore, only Hadhrat Isa (A.S.) will be able to kill Dajjal (the "anti-Christ").

The term "MAHDI" is a title meaning "The Guided one".

 Hadhrat Abdullah bin Mas'ood (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "This world will not come to an end until one person from my progeny does not rule over the Arabs, and his name will be the same as my name." (Tirmidhi)

 Hadhrat Ali (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Even if only a day remains for Qiyamah to come, yet Allah will surely send a man from my family who will fill this world with such justice and fairness, just as it initally was filled with oppression." (Abu Dawood)

 His Features

 Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Al Mahdi will be from my progeny. His forehead will be broad and his nose will be high. He will fill the world with justice and fairness at a time when the world will be filled with oppression. He will rule for seven years."

 Other ahadeeth inform us that:

    * He will be tall
    * He will be fair complexioned
    * His facial features will be similar to those of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)
    * His character will be exactly like that of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)
    * His father's name will be Abdullah
    * His mother's name will be Aamina
    * He will speak with a slight stutter and occasionally this stutter will frustrate him causing him to hit his hand upon his thigh.
    * His age at the time of his emergence will be forty years
    * He will receive Knowledge from Allah.

His Emergence and Rule

 Hadhrat Umme Salmah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, " After the death of a Ruler there will be some dispute between the people. At that time a citizen of Madina will flee (from Madinah) and go to Makkah. While in Makkah, certain people will approach him between Hajrul Aswad and Maqaame Ibraheem, and forcefully pledge their allegiance to him.

 Thereafter a huge army will proceed from Syria to attack him but when they will be at Baida, which is between Makkah and Madina, they will be swallowed into the ground.

On seeing this, the Abdaals of Shaam as well as large numbers of people from Iraq will come to him and pledge their allegiance to him. Then a person from the Quraish, whose uncle will be from the Bani Kalb tribe will send an army to attack him, only to be overpowered, by the will of Allah. This (defeated) army will be that of the Bani Kalb. Unfortunate indeed is he who does not receive a share from the booty of the Kalb. This person (Imam Mahdi) will distribute the spoils of war after the battle. He will lead the people according to the Sunnat and during his reign Islam will spread throughout the world. He will remain till seven years (since his emergence). He will pass away and the Muslims will perform his Janazah salaat." (Abu Dawood)

 According to a Hadeeth, Sayyidena Eesa (A.S.) will lead the Janaazah of Imam Mahdi (A.S.).

 While the people will be pledging their allegiance to Imaam Mahdi, a voice from the unseen will call out:

    "This is the representative of Allah,
    The Mahdi, listen to him and obey him"

This announcement which will be heard by all those present will establish his authenticity. Another sign which will indicate the authenticity of Imaam Mahdi wil be that in the Ramadhaan prior to his emergence an eclipse of the sun and moon will occur.

 Hadhrat Abu Umamah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "There will be four peace agreements between you and the Romans. The fourth agreement will be mediated through a person who will be from the progeny of Hadhrat Haroon (A.S.) and will be upheld for seven years."

The people asked: "O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), who will be the Imaam of the people at the time?"

 Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "He will be from my progeny and will be forty years of age. His face will shine like a star and he will have a black spot on his left cheek. He will don two "Qutwaani" cloaks and will appear exactly as a person from the Bani Israeel..." (Tabrani)

 According to hadith narrated by Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "...(regarding the rule of Imaam Mahdi) the skies will rain down in abundance and the earth will yield forth its crop in abundance, and those alive will desire that those who have already passed away should have been alive to enjoy this prosperity..."

 Hadhrat Buraidah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "There will be many armies after me. You must join that army which will come from Khurasaan." (Ibn Adi)

 Abu Hurairah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "(Armies carrying) black flags will come from Khurasaan. No power will be able to stop them and they will finally reach Eela (Baitul Maqdas) where they will erect their flags."

1) The Prophet (PBUH and HF) said: "Even if the entire duration of the world's existence has already been exhausted and only one day is left (before the day of judgment), Allah will expand that day to such a length of time, as to accommodate the kingdom of a person from my Ahlul-Bayt who will be called by my name. He will fill out the earth with peace and justice as it will have been full of injustice and tyranny (by then)."

Dajjal - The False Messiah

Dajjal - Anti Christ

One of the major signs of the last day is the Anti-Christ, or Dajjal, as he is known in Islam. Also known as the False Messiah, he is the greatest challenge the Muslim world will ever face.
The word Dajjal comes from the Arabic verb dajala which means to mix. It generally refers to mixing what is true with what is false, or what is good with what is bad, thereby causing confusion. The Dajjal will cause confusion by making people think he is good when he is actually evil.
Muslims, Christians, and Jews are all awaiting a Messiah. The Messiah, or Anointed One, is to bring peace and justice to the earth.
Muslims and Christians both believe Jesus (peace be upon him) is the Messiah.
However, Christians believe Jesus is the son of Allah and when he comes back, he will take his believers up to heaven in a rapture.
Jews do not believe Jesus will be the Messiah.

Muslims do believe Jesus (Isa in Arabic) will return to earth to establish justice. However, we believe he is to do battle with his opposite, the False Messiah, or Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal, or simply The Dajjal.
Since both the real Messiah and the False Messiah will be on earth at the same time, how will Muslims know who to follow? It is quite simple. The False Messiah will encourage people to worship him, whereas the true Messiah is a servant of Allah and will encourage his followers to worship Allah. Unfortunately, many will follow the False Messiah and worship him, thinking he is God on earth in the form of Jesus.

What Did The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) Say About The Dajjal?

Fortunately, we have a lot of information from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that helps us know what to look for and how to recognize the Dajjal.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has said:
“Whilst I was sleeping, I saw myself performing Tawaaf around the Ka’bah, when I saw a dark man with straight hair, standing between two other men, with water dripping from his head. I asked, “Who is this?” They said, “The son of Maryam.” Then I turned and saw a ruddy-complexioned man, well built, with curly hair, blind in his right eye, with his eye looking like a floating grape. I asked, “Who is this?” They said, “This is the Dajjaal.” The person who looks most like him is Ibnu Qatan.”
And in another hadith he (peace be upon him) stated:
“Allah is not one-eyed, but the False Messiah is one-eyed, blind or defective in his right eye, with his eye looking like a floating grape.”
And in yet another narration he (peace be upon him) said:
I have told you so much about the Dajjal that I fear you will not understand. The Dajjal will be a short man, pigeon-toed, with curly hair. He will be one-eyed, with his eye neither prominent nor sunken. If you become confused about him, then remember that your Lord is not one-eyed.
And he (peace be upon him) also said:
No Prophet was sent but he warned his people about the one-eyed liar. He is one-eyed, but your Lord is not one-eyed, and between his eyes will be written ‘kafir’.
The word kafir means “disbeliever” in Arabic, or one who is not Muslim.
With this information, we know the following about the Dajjal:
  • He will be short.
  • He will have curly hair.
  • He will be well-built.
  • And most importantly, he will be one-eyed.

What Will The Dajjal Do?

As mentioned earlier, The False Messiah will be the greatest trial mankind has ever faced. But his confusion will be even more troubling for Muslims. Why? Because unlike most others, Muslims will recognize his falsehood and will strive against him.
The Dajjal will come from the area of Central Asia known as Khorasan. This is an area that covers parts of Iran, Turkey, and Afghanistan. He will rise to power with his miracles and magic.  He will travel throughout the world spreading his corruption.
The Anti-Christ will first declare himself to be a prophet of God. Then he will claim that he is God himself. Most of the people in the world will believe in him and worship him. He will confuse people by showing them something that looks like a river of water, but is really a river of fire, and something that looks like fire but is really water.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has warned us that if we are presented with such a choice, we must choose the fire.
The False Messiah will also have the power to control the weather and the produce of the earth. For those that obey, follow, and worship him, he will reward them with abundant crops and wealth. And those that do not worship him (namely, Muslims) he will punish them with famine and poverty.
This is why the fitnah (trials) of the Dajjal will be so difficult. You can imagine how difficult it would be to resist a following him when one is faced with hunger and death.
The Dajjal will convince people that he is a god by performing miracles similar to those Jesus (peace be upon him) performed. For instance, he will make some believe that he has brought their parents back from the dead.
He will also try to convince the Muslims as well. Some Muslims will follow him and some will not. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has warned us to stay away from the Dajjal completely, since some people will go to him as a believer, and leave a disbeliever.
However, one of the best Muslims will recognize the Dajjal for who he is and go out to confront him. The Muslim will say “I bear witness you are the Dajjaal that our Prophet has warned us about.”
The Anti-Christ will then ask the other Muslims: “If I kill this man and bring him back to life, will you still doubt me?”
The people will say “No,” and the Anti-Christ will kill the Muslim and bring him back to life. Then the believer will say: “Now I know for certain that you are The Dajjaal!”
The Dajjal will try to kill him again, but will not be able.
This sort of confusion does not end here. He will travel to desolate lands and bring forth treasure and crops and wealth. Wealth will follow him everywhere he goes, and those that believe in him will benefit from this wealth.
According to one hadith, the Antichrist will be on earth for forty days. But these days are not like normal days. One day will be like a year, one day will be like a month, one will be like a week, and the remaining 37 days will be like normal days. If we take this literally, it would appear that he will be amongst us for about one year and two and a half months. But Allah knows best.

How The Dajjaal Will Die

The False Messiah will come near the end of the reign of the Mahdi. After several years of righteousness and peace, the Dajjal will appear and spread his fitnah and make things very difficult for those Muslims that still follow Al-Mahdi.
As the Dajjal increases in strength and wealth, the Muslims will appear to lose their power. The Dajjal will conquer most of the world except Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem. As mentioned earlier, he will not be able to enter either Mecca and Medina. It may be that these remaining cities are the only strongholds left for the Mahdi and his followers.
Though he is unable to take Mecca and Medina, the False Messiah will not stop. He will lead his army to Jerusalem.
At this time, Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) will descend and return to Earth. When Isa arrives, the Muslims will want him to lead them in prayer. However, Isa (peace be upon him) will defer to the Mahdi and follow him in the Salah.
Isa will then join the Mahdi’s army and lead the battle to intercept the Dajjal before he reaches Jerusalem.
When the two armies meet a great battle will ensue. The Muslims will eventually win and the forces of the Dajjal will break formation and flee the battle.
The Dajjal will also try to escape. But Isa (peace be upon him) will catch him and kill him. The Muslim army will also chase down the remains of the Dajjal’s army and destroy them all.

Final Comments

There have been many suggestions and suppositions as to who the False Messiah is. However, we must understand a few things.
  • The Dajjal is a person. A human being. He is not a system or a cult or a belief or a nation.
  • The Mahdi comes before the Dajjal. Not afterwards.
  • The Dajjal will first claim to be a prophet and then a god.
  • Those who do not follow the False Messiah will suffer a great deal. Many people, Muslims included, will be led astray by his lies.
  • Isa Ibn Maryam (peace be upon them both) will destroy the Dajjaal.

FOREWORD
All praise is due to Allah, the Creator and Sustainer, and may His choicest Peace and Blessings be upon His pious servants, foremost among them Our Beloved Nabi, Sayyidena Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).
The Qur'aan reminds us time and again that this universe has been created temporarily and at an appointed time it will surely be annihilated, ‘Everyone thereon will be annihilated and only the Countenance of your Mighty and Glorious Sustainer shall remain. The exact date and time of this event, termed as Qiyamah, is known to Allah Alone, "Verily Allah Alone has the knowledge of the Hour,"(Qur'aan). The Qur'aan and the hadeeth have however informed us about various signs which will occur prior to Qiyamah and which will be indicative of the closeness of the event. It is indeed very unfortunate to note that despite having before us the various warnings and signs regarding Qiyamah which have been mentioned by none other than Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), and handed down to us via the authentic channel of the noble companions, yet certain people professing to be Muslims attach no importance whatsoever to these teachings. Instead, they show deep interest in the baseless vague predictions of some Kaafir. Inaccurate and being capable of being interpreted in various ways these predictions hold no Shari importance. It was because of this sad state of affairs which undoubtedly is the result of weak Imaan, that this book "SIGNS OF Qiyamah" has been compiled, through which, it is hoped that the noble teachings of Our Beloved Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) are presented before us so that we may reform ourselves and attain eternal bliss.
This extremely sinful servant of Allah earnestly appeals to the Ulama to inform him about any errors and misrepresentations which are found in this book.
It is the dua of this sinner that may Allah accept this humble effort and make it a means of salvation for himself his parents, Asatiza, relatives and those who assisted in making this publication possible. Aameen.

SIGNS OF QIYAMAH
IMPORTANCE

All the previous Ambiyaa (A.S.) informed their respective Ummats about the signs of Qiyamah, but Our Beloved Nabi Sayyidena Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) informed his Ummat about these signs in much greater detail. The reason being that there is no Nabi to come after him and his Ummat is closest to the advent of Qiyamah, hence they need to make greater preparation for it by reforming their spiritual selves, controlling their passions and diligently carrying out the orders of Allah Ta'ala.
According to a hadeeth appearing in Sahih Muslim, Sayyidena Abi Zaid (R.A.) says, "Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) once led the Fajr Salaat after which he ascended the pulpit and addressed us till Zuhr Salaat. He alighted from the pulpit, performed Zuhr Salaat and ascended the pulpit. He then addressed us till Asr and descended from the pulpit. He performed Salaat and ascended the Mimbar. He then addressed us till sunset. (In these sermons) He informed us about those incidents which had occurred as well as those which are yet to occur. Those with stronger memories amongst us remembered most of them."
The above hadeeth as well as other Ahadeeth indicate the importance attached to the imparting of information pertaining to Qiyamah. It is further reported that the Noble Companions used to teach these Ahadeeth to their children instructing them to convey it to others.
It will be noticed that while some Ahadeeth mention very briefly certain signs of Qiyamah, other ahadeeth again mention certain signs in greater detail eg. the coming of Sayyidena Eesa (A.S.), Imaam Madhi (A.S.) and the advent of Dajjal. This is so because of the fact that these signs are a greater test for one's Imaan.
Another important point is that despite the large collection of Ahadeeth which exists in regard to the signs of Qiyamah there is no specific order mentioned in as far as the occurrence of many of these events is concerned. The exact period between each sign is also generally unknown.
Further, certain signs have been mentioned very briefly, thus making it difficult to specify exactly as to whether or not a certain event which has occurred or is occurring is the same one which the Ahadeeth has mentioned. The reason for all these above factors is to disable anyone from reckoning the exact time of Qiyamah which Allah has said will occur suddenly "it will come upon you suddenly". (Qur'aan)

TYPES OF SIGNS

For the sake of convenience the signs of Qiyamah have been categorized as follows: Major and minor signs.
The minor signs are again divided as follows: Immediate and later.
The immediate signs occurred in the earlier era of Islam while the later signs will occur in closer proximity to Qiyamah.
After the passing of the later signs will follow the major signs. The signs of Qiyamah in this book are listed in the above mentioned order.

THE MINOR SIGNS: IMMEDIATE

THE NOBLE BIRTH OF RASULULLAH
Qiyamah will not come until the Final Nabi of Allah (Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) came to this Earth. Being the Final Nabi it is obvious that once he has come Qiyamah is near.
THE DEMISE OF RASULULLAH
It is also evident that Qiyamah will never come during the lifetime of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). Therefore no sooner did Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) pass away, then the advent of Qiyamah drew closer.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) once said, "I and Qiyamah have been sent like this". He indicated the closeness of these events (his coming and Qiyamah) by holding his index finger and middle finger together.
THE SPLITTING OF THE MOON
Allah Ta’ala declares in the Qur'aan, "The Hour of Judgment is drawing near and the moon is cleft in two".
This incident apart from being a miracle of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is also a sign of Qiyamah and occurred approximately five years prior to the Hijrah.
THE TARTARS
The incident of the Tartars has been recorded in Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah. In the words of Bukhari the following is recorded, "Sayyidena Abu Hurairah narrates that Rasulullah said that Qiyamah will not take place until you people do not engage in battle with the Turks, (this does not refer to the Turkish people) who have small eyes, reddish laces and small flat noses. Their faces will be like a shield (broad) upon which many layers of skin have been placed. Qiyamah will not come until you do not fight with that nation which wears shoes made of hair."
NOTE:
Allamah Nawawi (R.A.) the well known commentator of Sahih Muslim says: This prophecy of Rasulullah’s (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) (regarding the Tartars) is from amongst his miracles. The battle is in progress with the Turks. All the details mentioned by Rasulullah are found in them: small eyes, reddish faces, small flat noses, broad faces. Their faces are like a shield over which layers of skin have been placed. They wear shoes made of hair.

These signs are found in them in our times. The Muslims have fought and are still fighting them. We supplicate unto Allah that May He forever shower His kindness and support. May His Mercy be upon His Rasul (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) who does not speak from his own side, but whatever he speaks is Divine Revelation.

THE FIRE OF HIJAAZ

Sayyidena Abu Hurairah (R.A.) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Qiyamah will not come until a fire does not break out in the land of Hijaaz. (The fire will) illuminate the necks of the camels of Busra".
NOTE
Busra is located approximately forty eight miles south of Damascus. Regarding this fire Allamah Nawawi (R.A.) says, the fire about which the Hadeeth makes mention of is from among the signs of Qiyamah. In our times (654 A.H.) a great fire emerged in Hairah which is east of Madina Tayyabah. The people of Shaam (Syria) and other cities are unanimous about its existence. I myself have been informed about it by the people of Madina who witnessed it.
Allamah Qurtubi (R.A.) gave the following details regarding the fire:
  • The fire was sparked off by a powerful earthquake;
  • It spread rapidly over the mountains leaving them in ashes;
  • A reddish yellow (flaming) stream which roared like thunder was noticed in this fire;
  • Though it reached the outskirts of Madina, the wind blowing from that direction into Madina was cool;
  • The fire was reported to have been seen from as far as the mountains surrounding Makkah as well as from Busra;
The scholars regard this fire also as one of the miracles of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). The above are some of the minor signs which occurred in the earlier era of Islam.

MINOR SIGNS: LATER
Below are given the minor signs which have occurred well into the latter era of Islam and are still being witnessed:
LIARS
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "In the last days, such liars and deceitful people will emerge, who will tell you such new things (baseless interpretations and distortions about Islam), which neither you, nor your forebears would have heard about. Beware of them, beware of them. It should not happen that they lead you astray."
EVIL ULAMA (ULAMA-E-SOO’)
Hadhrat All (R.A.) says Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "A time is soon to come when Islam will remain only by name, and the Qur'aan will exist only in words. People will erect large and beautiful Masjids, but these Masjids will lack guidance and be deserted. The worst creation below the skies will be the Ulama-e-Soo’. Great Fitna (evils) will emanate from them and they themselves will promote fitna and they will be the center of Fitna.
SINS
Hadhrat Zainab bint Jahash (RA.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) was asked: "0 Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) What? Will ruin and destruction come upon us even if there are pious servants of Allah living amongst us?" "Yes", replied Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), "When the evil of sins Spread", (then the existence of even pious people will not stop ruin and destruction.)
SIGN OF INTELLIGENCE
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (RA.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "A time will also come upon people that a person will find himself in such a position and under such circumstances that he either allows himself to be branded as a fool or, he either joins the prevailing evils, (becoming a part of it). Should a person find himself in such a situation, then it is better for him to be branded as a fool, rather than participate in evil."
EVIL LEADERS
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "A time will also come upon people when they will employ deceit in everything. At that time the liars will be declared as the Truthful and the Truthful will be condemned as liars. The evil one’s will be regarded as upright while the upright will be regarded as evil people; The "Ruwaibadha" will represent (lead) the people. It was asked as to who the "Ruwaibadha" were? He said they were the incompetent, unscrupulous and insignificant people. They will attend to the important matters pertaining to the public and make decisions.
ABUNDANCE OF QURRAH (QAREE)
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) relates the following narration of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam): ‘That time will also come upon my Ummat, when though there will be an abundance of Qurrah, there will be a shortage of Fuqaha (Jurists). There will be a scarcity of (Islamic) knowledge and an increase in evil and anarchy. Then there will also come a time upon the Ummat when people will recite the Qur'aan, but it will not go further than their throats, (into their hearts, i.e. they will not be affected by it). Then that time will also come when a Mushrik and Mu’min will debate on the Tauheed (Oneness) of Allah.
NO IMAAN
Hadhrat Umme Salma (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "That time will also come upon the people when the Truthful will be condemned as liars and the liars will be regarded as Truthful. People with dishonest occupations will be regarded as upright people while upright people will be condemned as criminals. People will come forth uncalled to give evidence, (for a fee), and people will take oaths (false) without it being called for. The progeny of lowly parents will be regarded as fortunate people on account of their worldly possessions, whereas, in actual fact they will not have Imaan in Allah or His Rasul (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).
DIFFICULT TIMES
Hadhrat Anas (R.A.) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Such a time will come upon people that it will be as difficult for them to remain on Deen as it is for a person to hold a burning coal in his hand."
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) reported that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Perform all good deeds before the era of evil dawns, the darkness of which will increase in waves. The effects of these evils will be so grave that a person will be a Mu’min in the morning and a Kaafir at night, or, a Mu’min at night and a Kaafir in the morning. A person will sell his Deen in lieu of a paltry sum." (Muslim)
TWO JAHANNAMI GROUPS
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "I have not yet seen two groups of Jahannamis, (because they have not emerged thus far). One group is of those men who will have lashes the size of the tails of oxen, in their hands, with which they will lash the faces of others. The other group is of those women who will wear clothes, yet they will be naked. They will attempt to attract people towards themselves and they will incline towards people (men). Their heads will appear to be like a dromedary (camel). Such women will never be able to enter Jannat, nay, they will not even smell the fragrance of Jannat, although the fragrance of Jannah will spread far.
NOTE
a) These days, scantily clad women or women who wear fine (see through) clothing are those who have on clothes, yet they are naked. Women dressed in tight, figure hugging clothing also fall in this category.
b) Women who wear high buns on the head are those whose heads appear to be like the hump of a camel.
THE MOON
Hadhrat Anas (R.A.) narrates, "One of the signs of Qiyamah will be that the moon will be sighted before it appears on the horizon, and people will say regarding the moon of the first night (of the month) that "this is the moon of the second night".
The masjids will be used as tourist attractions, rather than places of lbaadat. Untimely (sudden) deaths will be very common.
According to another narration also by Hadhrat Anas (R.A.), the following signs of Qiyamah have been mentioned;
a) Increase in immorality.
b) Use of abusive language.
c) Severing of ties between close families / relatives.
He also relates: "Regard Qiyamah as having arrived when Masjids will be objects of pride, instead of places of lbaadat".
(i.e. People will try to outdo each other in building the best Masjid, or people will gather in Masjids and boast about various things).

LOVE OF THE MATERIAL WORLD
Hadhrat Thaubaan (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "A time will come when the Kaafir nations will invite each other, just as people are invited towards meals, in order to annihilate you". Someone asked, "0 Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) will their boldness to do so be on account of us being small in number? Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, "No, in fact your numbers will be great, but despite that, you will be like a twig in flood waters. Allah will remove your fear from the hearts of the enemy, (your enemy will not fear you) while he will create "wahari" in your hearts. Someone enquired."What is wahan’ O Rasulullah?" He replied, "Love of this world and hate for death".
NOTE
The love of the world has made us indifferent towards Halaal and Haraam, and we are extremely coward in the face of death. Despite our large numbers the Kuffar have the upper hand over us.

QIYAMAH WILL COME WHEN...
Hadhrat Abu Musa Ash’ari (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Qiyamah will come...
  • When it will be regarded as a shame to act on Qur'aanic injunctions.
  • When Islam will become a stranger (unwanted religion).
  • When malice and hate will become common among people.
  • When Islamic Knowledge (ILM) is lifted up.
  • When Time will become old.
  • When people’s life spans become short.
  • When months and years and foodstuff will be devoid of blessing, (i.e. appear to be very short and less).
  • When untrustworthy people will be regarded as trustworthy and the trustworthy will be regarded as untrustworthy.
  • When the liars will be regarded as truthful and the truthful will be regarded as liars.
  • When violence, bloodshed and anarchy become common.
  • When people will boast upon their palatial mansions.
  • When women with children become displeased (on account of them bearing off-spring) and barren women remain happy (on account of having no responsibility of off-spring).
  • When oppression, jealousy and greed become the order of the day.
  • When people begin to die in large numbers.
  • When lies prevail over the truth.
  • When people dispute over petty issues.
  • When people blatantly follow their passions and whims.
  • When decisions will be given on mere conjecture (wild-guesses).
  • When there will be a scarcity of crops despite abundant rains.
  • When the fountains of Knowledge run dry and the floods of ignorance burst forth.
  • When it will be hot in Winter (and vice versa).
  • When immorality overtakes shamelessness and is perpetrated publicly.
  • When the length of days is stretched, i.e. a journey of a few days is covered in a matter of a few hours.
  • When orators and lecturers lie openly.
  • When legislation in matters pertaining to my right (Deen) is handed over to the worst elements in my Ummat, and if people accept them and are satisfied with their findings, then such persons will not smell the fragrance of Jannat.
  • When the off-spring become a cause of grief and anger (for their parents).
(KANZUL UMMAAL)
LEGALIZING HARAAM
Hadhrat Anas (R.A.) narrates the following from Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).
"When my Ummat begins regarding five things as permissible and perpetrates them, then they will be destroyed;
  • When they abuse and curse each other,
  • Men begin using silk garments,
  • Entertain themselves with singing and dancing women,
  • Consume liquor openly,
  • Homosexuality and lesbianism is practiced.
Hadhrat Ayesha (R.A.) says, "I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying that the first Islamic Law to be overturned like a utensil (i.e. changed), will be that of liquor.
It was asked "0 Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) how can such a thing occur when Allah has openly declared the prohibition of liquor?" Rasulullah (S.A.W.) replied, "Liquor will be given another name and then its use will be legalized".
(Mishkaat)
DISFIGURATION
Hadhrat Anas (R.A.) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "In the last days before Qiyamah, the faces of certain people from my Ummah will be changed into that of pigs and monkeys". The Sahabah enquired, "Will such people believe in you and Allah?" Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, "Not only will they affirm these things, but they will also perform Salaat, observe Fast and perform Hajj.
The Sahabah asked, "Then why will such misfortune befall them?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, "They will be addicted to dancing and singing girls, and musical instruments. They will consume liquor excessively. One night they will pass their time in the usual merriment and in the morning their faces will have been transformed into those of monkeys and swines".
(Fathul Baari)
WINE
Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "When this Ummat regards liquor as a beverage (soft drink), interest as a profit and bribery as a gift, thereby attempting to legalize it (make it Halaal), and when they conduct their business with Zakaat, then they will be destroyed as a result of increasing sin".
(Kanzul Ummaal)
VARIOUS EVILS
The following is part of a lengthy Hadeeth narrated by Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mas’ood (R.A.) when he inquired from Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) about the signs of Qiyamah.
  • Gangsters and evil people will prevail,
  • People will establish ties with strangers and severe relations with their near and dear ones.
  • Hypocrites will be in control of the affairs of the community and evil, immoral people will be at the helm of business establishments.
  • The Masjid will be decorated but, the hearts of people will be devoid of guidance.
  • People will indulge in homosexuality and lesbianism.
  • The courtyards of Masjids will be built beautifully and high mimbars (pulpits) will be erected.
  • Music and musical instruments will be found in every home.
  • Various wines will be consumed excessively.
  • There will be an abundance of critics, tale-carriers, back-biters and taunters in society.
  • There will be an abundance of illegitimate children.
(kanzul Ummaal)
DEATH BETFER THAN LIFE
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "When your Rulers are pious and upright, and when the rich among you are generous, and when matters pertaining to you are carried out with consultation (Shura), then it is better for you to be on the Earth instead of being in the Earth, but when your Rulers are mischievous, (evil and corrupt), and when the rich among you are miserly, and when your affairs are controlled by women (i.e. the final decision rests with them), then it will be better for you to be in the Earth rather than on the Earth. (i.e. it will be better for you to be dead rather than alive.)
(Jamè Tirmidhi)
THE WORST OF TIMES
Hadhrat Mu’aaz bin Jabal (R.A.) and other Companions (R.A.) narrate the following from Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), "Allah Ta’ala commenced this Deen with Nubuwwat and Me’raj. (After this) The era of Khilafat too will be a blessed one. Thereafter will be the rule of ruthless kings. Then will follow a dictatorial rule filled with tyranny, oppression and extortion. At this very time the Ummah will be sunk in total decadence: People will legalize adultery, alcoholism, the use of silken garments (by men) etc.
Despite the prevailing tyranny and evil, they will not be prevented (by Allah). They will continue to receive their sustenance and the final reckoning will only have to be given in the court of Allah.
NOTE
It is very commonly seen that the Kuffar and even sinful Muslims lead their lives in total contradiction of the Divine laws of Allah, indulging in the most despicable vices imaginable, and yet seem to be enjoying robust health, abundant wealth and a generally care-free life. These outward benefits should not be misconstrued to mean that these people are being showered with blessings, despite their evil ways.
The Qur'aan clarifies this phenomenon that the comforts enjoyed by these people are in fact a Punishment from Allah in this world. Such people are so deeply engrossed in their passions that they fail to embrace Imaan or make Taubah, until death suddenly snatches them away and the time for reckoning before Allah arrives.
May Allah Ta’ala open our eyes before that! Aameen.
Hadhrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.) narrates that a time will come upon people that the only object of a person will be to fill his belly while his Deen will be to follow his passions.
NOTE
Whatever task a person will undertake, he will only be concerned with his own interest, and fulfilling all his desires, legitimate or otherwise will become his way of life.
DISTINCTION BETWEEN HALAAL AND HARAAM
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates the following from Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) "A time will come upon the people that, on account of his arrogance and obstinacy, a person will not care whether he takes or does that what is Halaal or Haraam". (i.e. He will neither bother to stay away from Haraam, nor will he take the trouble to search for Halaal).
(Bukhari)
THE ERA OF INTEREST (RIBA)
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Undoubtedly, a period will come upon the people wherein not a single person will be saved from indulging in interest. If anyone avoids direct indulgence in interest yet he will not escape the smoke (effects) thereof. Its effects will somehow reach him.
NOTE
Is there anyone in this day and age who can claim not to be involved directly or indirectly in interest?
Further the evil of interest is so severe that for no other sin, major or minor, has Allah and his Rasul declared war upon its perpetrator, except interest. Allah and His Rasul (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) have declared war upon those who indulge in interest. Is there anyone still so bold as to perpetrate this evil?
NON-ACCEPTANCE OF DUA
Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, By Him in whose hands is my life, You people must carry out the obligation of exhorting Good and preventing Evil (Amr bil Ma’roof Wan Nahy Anil Munkar), otherwise some form of Punishment from Allah will overtake you. (Fear, disunity, anarchy, murder, theft etc.) Then when you will beseech Allah (to remove the Azaab or for any personal needs) He will not answer your Dua.
NOTE
Undoubtedly Allah Ta’ala is the Hearer of all Duas, but because people fail to discharge their obligation unto Him then as a Punishment He rejects their Duas.
INSECURITY AND FEAR
Hadhrat Hasan Basri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, ‘This Ummat will be in the continuous shade of Allah’s Mercy and Protection. But if the learned (Ulema) amongst them bow down to (the evil demands of) those in power, and begin supporting them, and if the Pious amongst the Ummah began defending the evil of the sinners, and if the uprighteous begin encouraging evil, (instead of exhorting them to repent), then at such a time Allah will remove His hand of Mercy and Compassion. He will then designate a tyrant over them who will inflict the worst forms of atrocities and cruelties upon them. Allah will cause poverty and starvation to envelope them and He will fill their hearts with fear (terror) of the enemy.
HYPOCRISY
Hadhrat Mu’aaz bin Jabai (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "In the last days, people will be such that outwardly they will express great love, concern and sympathy towards others, but in their hearts they will harbor the greatest enmity for each other, continuously looking out for an opportunity to eliminate his enemy". It was asked, "Why would such an attitude occur?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "On account of fear and greed’.
WEALTH - A GREAT TRIAL
Hadhrat Ka’b Ibn lyaadh (R.A.) narrates "I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying, "Every Ummat had some Trial (Fitnah) and the Fitnah of my Ummah is wealth.
(Tirmidhi)
According to another narration Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has said, "I do not fear poverty overtaking my Ummah, but rather I fear that they might become wealthy and are destroyed like the people of before.
Hadhrat Amr bin Auf (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "By Allah I do not fear poverty and starvation overtaking you, but I fear that you will have abundant wealth at your disposal as it had been at the disposal of the nations before you. You will then become extremely greedy in accumulating this wealth (showing no regard for Halaal and Haraam) just as the previous nations had done. This (greed) will be the cause of your ruin and destruction just as it destroyed the people before you".
(Bukhari and Muslim)
CONCEITED PEOPLE
Hadhrat Abbas (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has said, "Islam will spread far and wide, across the seas. Horses will cross the land and seas in the cause of Jihad.
Then a time will come wherein a group of people will emerge which recites the Qur'aan. They will claim," We have recited the Qur'aan. and is there anyone who understands the Qur'aan. better than us? There is no one more proficient than us in the study of the Qur'aan.".
Then Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) asked the Sahabah, "Do you see any good in their claims?"
The Sahabah replied, "No.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)) said, "But these conceited claimants will be from my Ummah and will be the fuel of the Fire.

DAJJAL
Hadhrat Imraan bin Husain (R.A.) relates that, "I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying: "That since the birth of Adam (A.S.) till the advent of Qiyamah there is no fitnah (evil, test) much greater than that of Dajjal."
Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) says, Dajjal will be blind in his left eye. He will have very thick hair on his body and he will also have Jannat and Jahannam with him. Though his Jannat will appear as Jannat, in reality it will be Jahannam and likewise though his Jahannam will appear to be Jahannam, in reality it will be Jannat.
(Muslim)
Imraan bin Husain (R.A.) says Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Those who hear about Dajjal should stay far from him. By Allah! A person will approach him thinking him to be a Believer, but on seeing his amazing feats he will become his follower".
(Abu Dawood)
Ubadah bin Saamit (R.A.) says, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) once said, "I have explained Dajjal to you, but I fear that you might not have understood. Maseeh Dajjal will be short, and his legs will be crooked. The hair on his head will be extremely twisted. He will have one eye (with which he can see, and this is the protruding eye about which other ahadeeth inform us), while his other eye will be totally flat. It will neither be deep (in its socket) nor protruding.
If you still have any doubt regarding him then remember that your Sustainer (Rabb) is not one-eyed. (Because Dajjal will eventually claim to be Allah). In a lengthy Hadeeth narrated by Abu Saeed (R.A.), Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said: "Dajjal will come but it will be prohibited and impossible for him to enter Madina. He will set up camp in a barren land outside Madina. One person who will be the best of persons will confront him by saying: "I bear witness that you are the very Dajjal about whom Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has informed us".
Dajjal will say to his followers, "If I kill this person and then revive him will you people still doubt me?"
They will reply, "No".
He will then kill this person, (according to another narration he will split this person in two) and thereafter revive him. This person will say, "I am now totally convinced more than ever before that you definitely are Dajjal."
Dajjal will attempt to kill this person again but his efforts will now be in vain. (According to a Hadeeth after this incident, Dajjal will not be able to harm anyone).
Hadhrat Anas (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Dajjal will come and finally reach the outskirts of Madina. There will be three tremors. At that time all the disbelievers and hypocrites will flee (from Madina).
In this way Madina Munawwarah will be purified of all the evil hypocrites.
Hadhrat Asma bint Yazeed (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) once came to my house and there he spoke about Dajjal. He said that before the emergence of Dajjal there will be three spells of drought. In one year the skies will withhold one third of its rains, causing the earth to withhold one third of its produce. In the second year the skies will withhold two thirds of its rain causing the earth to withhold two thirds of its produce. In the third year the skies will withhold all its water and there will be no crops that year. All animals, be they hooved or toothed will die as a result. The greatest evil of Dajjal will be to approach anyone and ask him: "If I bring your camel back to life, will you then believe that I am your Rabb"? This person will reply, "most certainly". Thereafter Shaytaan (from the many Shayateen who will always accompany Dajjal) will appear before this person in the form of his camel with a fat hump and fully laden udders.
Likewise Dajjal will appear before another person whose father and brother have long passed away and ask him, "If I bring your father and brother back to life will you believe that I am your Rabb?" The person will reply, "Why not"? Shaytaan will one again take on the appearance of his brother and father..."
(Ahmad)
Hadhrat Mughira ibn Shu’ba (R.A.) says that, "No one asked Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) about Dajjal as much as myself. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said to me, "How can he possibly harm you"? I said: "People are saying that he will have with him a mountain of bread (provisions) and a river of water". Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "In the sight of Allah he is much more disgraced than that. (i.e. Allah knows full well that in reality Dajjal has nothing with him, and all that which appears to be with him is but deception).
(Bukhari and Muslim)
Other Ahadeeth regarding Dajjal inform us that: He will emerge between Shaam and Iraq, and his emergence will become known when he is in Isfahaan at a place called Judea; (Yahudea) He will be of Jewish origin;
The Jews of Isfahaan will be his main followers; Apart from having mainly Jewish followers he will have a great number of women followers as well; He will have with him fire and water, but in reality the fire will be cold water, while that what appears to be cold water will in reality be a blazing fire; Those who obey him will enter his "Jannat’ while those who disobey him will enter his Jahannam; There will be a thick fingernail-like object in his left eye; The letters "Kaa" "Faa" "Raa" will appear on his forehead and will be deciphered by all Mu’mineen regardless of them being literate or not; He will have a wheatish complexion; He will travel at great speeds and his means of conveyance will be a gigantic mule. It is said that he will play beautiful Music which will attract the music lovers.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has exhorted the regular recital of Suratul Kahf which will most certainly save one from the Evils of Dajjal.
  • Dajjal will lay claim to Prophethood.
  • He will then lay claim to Divinity.
  • He will perform unusual feats.
  • He will travel the entire world. He will send down rains upon those who believe in him, which in turn will cause good crops to grow, trees to bear fruit and cattle to grow fat.
  • He will cause drought to those who disbelieve in him, causing starvation and hardship for them.
  • During those trying times the Mu’mineen will satiate their hunger through the recitation of Subhan Allaah and La’ilalha llallahu. The hidden treasures of the earth will spill forth at his command. He will stay on this Earth for a period of forty days; the length of the first day will be one year, the second day will be equal to one month, the third day will be equal to a week and the remaining days will be normal.
  • He will be unable to enter Makkah because the Malaikah will be guarding the Holy City and nor will he be able to enter Madina because there will be Malaikah guarding each of the seven entrances to Madina; From Madina he will proceed towards Shaam where Imaam Mahdi will be stationed;
  • Finally Eesa (A.S.) will descend from the heavens and pursue him and eventually kill him at Baab Lud. (Present day Lydda)
(Bukhari)

THE DESCENSION OF SAYYIDENA EESA ALAYHIS SALAAM
The descension of Sayyidena Eesa (A.S.) also falls in the category of the major signs of Qiyamah according to the Qur'aan and the hadeeth.
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "By Him in whose hands is my soul, the time is near when Ibn Maryam (Eesa A.S.) will descend upon you; he will rule over you with justice; he will break the Cross and kill the pigs; He will end all battles. There will be such an abundance of wealth during his rule that there will be no takers; The value of one Sajda in the eyes of the people will be much greater than the world and what it Contains;"
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) then recited the verse:
"There is none among the People of the Book but will believe in him before his death"
Hadhrat Imraan bin Hussain (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "There will always be a group of people on the Path of Truth, overpowering their enemies, until the Order of Allah comes, and Eesa (A.S.) descends".
Hadhrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.) narrates that Eesa (A.S.) will descend on Mount Afeeq. He will be a just ruler. He will don a cloak and be of medium height. His cheeks will be flat and his hair straight. He will have a spear in his hand and he will kill Dajjal. With the death of Dajjal all battles will come to an end. There will be such peace and safety in his time that if a person were to be confronted by a lion, it will not attack him, and if a person were to take hold of a snake it will not harm him. There will be an abundance of crops during his time as it used to be during the era of Aadam (A.S.). All the inhabitants of the earth will believe in him and they will all follow one religion".
In a lengthy Hadeeth narrated by Hadhrat Nawwas bin Sam’aan (R.A.) from Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) who says",... Eesa (AS.) will descend on the white Eastern Minaret of Damascus. He will don two saffron colored sheets. His hands will be resting on the shoulders of two Malai’kah. When he lowers his head it will appear that droplets of water are flowing (from his hair), and when he raises his head it will appear as though there are shiny silverish pearls on his hair.
Eesa (A.S.) will have a reddish white complexion. He will remain alive on the earth for forty years. When he passes away the Muslims will perform his Janazah salaat". He will don the Ihraam either for Umrah or Haj or for both from Fajje Rautia.
YA’JOOJ AND MA’JOOJ
During the reign of Eesa (A.S.) people will live an extremely peaceful life filled with prosperity and abundance. Then the wall which imprisons Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will break and they will surge forth in large numbers.
"But when Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are let loose arid they rush headlong down every hill" (Qur'aan, 21:97)
WHO ARE THE YA’JOOJ AND MA’JOOJ
Zul Qarnain (A.S.) who was a pious and just Ruler traveled to many lands and conquered them, establishing justice and the Law of Allah therein. Allah Ta’ala provided him with all forms of material strength through which he was able to carry out his conquests and missions.
He once carried out a mission in three directions, the far west, the far east, and then in a northerly direction. It was here that he came across a tribe of people who complained to him about the tribes of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj which inhabited the land behind two huge mountains and often emerged from behind these mountains to perpetrate acts of anarchy and plunder among them. They requested Zul Qarnain (A.S.) to erect a barrier between themselves and the tribes of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj so that they could be saved from their atrocities. With the material strength at his disposal, Zul Qarnain (A.S.) enlisted their physical labor and set about erecting a high wall between the two mountains. The height of the wall or its exact length is unknown. What is known is that the height of this wall reaches that of the summit of both mountains. It is made with blocks or sheets of iron, which is further strengthened with molten lead. In this manner Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are unable to scale the wall, or cross it except when it is the will of Allah.
"And when the promise of my Rabb approaches, He will level it to dust" (Qur'aan 18:98)
They are situated in a land of ice which is hidden from our gazes and the exact location of which is unknown. Though many interpretations do exist in this respect, none of these can be said to be absolute.
Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj are human beings and according to a narration they are from the progeny of Yafith ibn Nooh (A.S.)
In a lengthy Hadeeth by Hadhrat Nawwas ibn Sam’aan (R.A.) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said: Allah will send revelation upon Eesa (A.S.) that ‘Such a creation of mine is now going to emerge that no power will be able to stop them. Therefore take my servants and ascend the Mount of Toor’. Then Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj will emerge and surge fourth in all their fury. When those from among them who constitute the former part of their army pass the lake of Tiberias (which is in Northern Palestine), they will drink up all the water of that lake and by the time those that constitute the latter part of that same army pass the lake, they will say, "There used to be water here (long ago). When they will reach the Mount of Khamr in Jerusalem, they will arrogantly proclaim; "We have conquered the people of the earth, now we will annihilate those in the sky".
So saying they will fire their arrows towards the sky. When the arrows return to the ground they will be blood stained. In the meantime Eesa (A.S.) will be on the Mount of Toor with his followers. At that time the head of an ox will as valuable as is hundred dinars to you in this day. (This indicates the scarcity of provisions). Faced with these hardships, Eesa (AS.) and his followers will make dua unto Allah (to remove this calamity). As a result Allah will cause sores to appear on the necks of each and every individual of these people which will cause their death suddenly. When Eesa (A.S.) and his followers descend from the Mount of Toor there will not be a single space on the land where the dead rotting bodies of these people is not littered, giving off a horrendous odor. Eesa (A.S.) and his followers will once more supplicate unto Allah as a result of which Allah will send down huge birds whose necks will be as thick as that of the necks of camels, and they will dump these bodies in a place where Allah wills. (According to a narration by Tirmidhi, they will be dumped at a place called Nahbal). Allah Ta’ala will then send down a heavy rain, the waters of which will flow in every part of the earth cleansing it thoroughly. It will rain for a period of forty days. The Muslims will then burn the bows and arrows of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj for a period of seven years.
Allah will order the earth to yield forth its crops in abundance and there will be such blessing and prosperity that one pomegranate will be sufficient for a whole group while the peel thereof will suffice to cast a shadow over them.
The milk of one camel will be sufficient for many groups while one milk giving cow will be sufficient for a whole tribe. One milk giving goat will be sufficient for a whole family..." (Muslim)
Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: ‘On the day of Qiyamah Allah will say to Adam (A.S.) to pick out the Jahannamis from his entire progeny. Adam (A.S.) will ask: "0 Rabb who are they"? Allah will say: "Nine hundred and ninety nine of a thousand are Jahannami while the one is a Jannati". On hearing this the Sahabah were overtaken by fear and they asked: "O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) who will that one Jannati be"? Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Do not grieve, the nine hundred and ninety nine will be Ya’jooj and Ma'jooj while you will be the Jannati". (i.e. your numbers in relation to them will be one in a thousand). (Bukhari and Muslim)
Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Allah Ta’ala divided mankind into ten parts. Nine tenths constitute Ya'jooj and Ma’jooj while the remaining one tenth constitutes the rest of mankind".
Hadhrat Zainab bint Jahsh (R.A.) says: ".. .once Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) awoke from such a sleep that his face was red and these words were on his tongue,’ There is none worthy of worship but Allah. Destruction is upon the Arabs on account of that evil which has come close to them. Today a hole as big as this has opened up in the wall of Ya’jooj and Ma'jooj and Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) indicated the size of the hole forming a ring with his index finger and thumb". (Bukhari and Muslim)
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that every day Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj break (dig) through the wall erected by Zul Qarnain (AS.) until they reach the end of it to that extent that they can actually see the light on the other side. They then return (home) saying that "We will break through tomorrow. "But Allah Ta’ala causes the wall to revert to its original thickness and the next day they start digging through the wall all over again, and this process continues each day until as long as Allah wills them to remain imprisoned.
When Allah wishes them to be released, then at the end of the day they will say, "If Allah wills, tomorrow we will break through". The following day they will find the wall as they had left it the previous day (i.e. it will not have returned to its original state). and after breaking the remaining part of it they will emerge".
(Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)
Commenting on the above Hadeeth, Allamah Ibn Arabi says, Three miracles are evident in this Hadeeth:
1. It never occurs to these tribes that they must continue work during the night. After all, they are in such large numbers that they can easily delegate the work among themselves and work in shifts. But Allah does not allow this thought to occur to them.
2. It does never occur to them that they can merely cross the mountains or scale the wall, which they can do through the aid of equipment and implements which they possess in large numbers. According to a narration by Wahab ibn Munabbah it is known that these tribes are agriculturists and artisans possessing various types of equipment.
3. The thought of saying If Allah wills" never enters their minds and it will only occur to them to say it when Allah wills that they be released.

THE CAVING IN OF THE GROUND
After the annihilation of Ya’jooj and Ma'jooj Eesa (A.S.) will live on and then pass away. He will be buried alongside Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). A man named Jahjaah from the Qahtaan tribe of Yemen will then be the Khalifa and he will rule with great justice and piety. With the passing of time other Rulers will follow and slowly once again, corruption and decadence will set in. The baseless customs of Kufr and ignorance will pervade the Earth. According to a narration in Bukhari and Muslim, at this time one place in the east and another in the west will cave in and among those who die as a result of this will be those who refute the concept of Taqdeer.
THE SMOKE
According to a narration appearing in Muslim Shareef, Abu Dawood, etc. a thick fog or smoke will envelope the skies. This smoke will last for forty days and it will cause the Mu’mineen to develop colds while the effect of it upon the Kuffar will be so severe that they will lapse into unconsciousness. Thereafter the skies will clear up.
THE NIGHT OF THREE NIGHTS
Not very long after the clearance of the smoke, a night will suddenly become unusually long. This incident will occur in the month of Zil Hajj some time after Eidul Adha, and cause great restlessness among the people. Travelers will become frustrated while children and adults will be overtaken by extreme anxiety and they will resort to Taubah. Even the animals will become restless. After a length of three nights this night will finally come to an end.
RISING OF THE SUN IN THE WEST
When the lengthy night ends, the sun will rise, but contrary to its normal manner of rising in the East. On this day the sun will rise from the West and its rays will be extremely dull. When it reaches the meridian it will return and set in the West normally. On seeing this strange event many Kuffar will affirm their faith in the Oneness of Allah while many sinful Muslims will repent for their sins. However at this time neither will the Imaam of the Kuffar nor the repentance of the sinful Mu’mineen be accepted by Allah.
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Whoever repents unto Allah, BEFORE the sun rises from the West will surely have his repentance accepted by Allah".
(Muslim)
THE BEAST FROM THE EARTH
The next day while the unusual event of the rising of the sun from the West will still be fresh in the minds and upon the tongues of the people, an earthquake will grip Mount Safaa in Makkah, causing a split in the ground. A strange looking animal will emerge from this crack in the ground." And when our judgment overtakes them, we will bring out from the earth a beast that shall speak to them..." (Qur'aan)
According to a hadeeth narrated by Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has mentioned the emergence of the beast from the ground as one of the final signs of Qiyamah.
This animal will be most strange and fascinating in its appearance and action. It will speak to the people. It will not be born as other creation is born, but will appear miraculously from the ground. According to a Hadeeth recorded in Ibn Katheer and narrated by Hadhrat Talha bin Umar (R.A.) the following is mentioned:
"As the animal emerges from the ground, it will be dusting the sand off its head. It will proceed towards the area between Hajrul Aswad and Maqaamul Ibraheem. The people on seeing it will flee in all directions, except for one group of people. It will approach this group and illuminate their faces like shining stars. Thereafter it will set out and travel throughout the whole world (at a great speed). It will mark the faces of the Kuffar and none will be able to escape it".
It is narrated that this animal will have the staff of Sayyidena Moosa (A.S.) with which it will mark the faces of the Mu’mineen causing it to glitter while it will mark the necks and noses of the Kuffar with the ring of Sayyidena Sulaiman (A.S.) causing their faces to be blackened. Most scholars are of the opinion that this animal will speak the normal and general things to the people. Before the emergence of this animal there will be rumor on two previous occasions about its emergence, once in Yemen and once in Najd. After performing its duty the animal will disappear.
THE BREEZE FROM THE SOUTH
Thereafter an extremely fresh and fragrant breeze will blow from the south causing a slight pain under the armpits of the Mu’mineen. This pain will soon cause their deaths according to the order of their piety, i.e. first the most pious, then the sinners, then the flagrant sinners, etc. until no Mu’min, pious or sinful remains.
DESTRUCTION OF THE KA’BAH
Now that no Mu’min remains on the face of the earth, the forces of Kufr and falsehood will be rampant. The entire world will be under the the domination of Kuffar Africans. They will destroy Ka’bah Shareef.
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Zus Saweeqatain (one with short shin bones), from Habsha (Abyssinia) will destroy the Ka'bah.
Hadhrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "It is as though I can see a black, with crooked legs destroying the Ka’bah, brick by brick".
Hajj will no longer take place. The words of the Holy Qur'aan will be lifted from the pages.
There will neither be any fear of Allah in the hearts of the people nor any obedience whatsoever to His commands.
People will stoop to the lowest level of bestiality, perpetrating the worst acts of immorality, corruption and evil.
Tyrant rulers will inflict the worst forms of punishment and cruelties upon their subjects and the general masses will indulge in bloodshed and anarchy.
There will be such ignorance that not a single being will mention the name of Allah.
These will be the worst creation ever and upon them Qiyamah will come.
There will be a certain degree of peace in Shaam as compared to the rest of the world and many people will emigrate towards Shaam with their families.
THE GREAT FIRE FROM THE SOUTH
A huge fire will break out in Yemen and the people will flee from it. The fire will follow them as they proceed. When they will stop to rest, it too will stop close by, and as they proceed it will resume following them. In this manner it will drive them towards Shaam, after which it will disappear. This is the final sign of Qiyamah.
THE COMMENCEMENT OF QIYAMAH
Some years after the Fire, while people will be living their lives in sin, enjoying the luxury and comforts of the world, on a Friday which will be the 10th Muharram, the day of Aashura, a distant continuous sound will be heard. At first no one will take notice of this sound, but as it gradually grows louder, people will be overtaken by fear. This will be the TRUMPET (Soor) being blown by Hadhrat lsrafeel (A.S.)
The sound will be heard by all the people everywhere at the same time, and there will be nowhere to escape from it. As it grows louder people will become increasingly terrified and fearful. Soon it will be louder than thunder and people will flee from their homes out into the jungles in the hope of escaping from it while the animals of the jungle who will also be terrified of it will come into the living areas of the people to escape it. Soon all the creatures, large and small will die because of the sound. It will destroy everything and cause the earth to split all over. The seas will burst forth covering the nearby mountains in water, and not before long the mountains too will break up and the pieces thereof will crash against each other totally disintergrating. As the sound grows louder yet, the skies will split and the heavenly bodies, the stars, the moon and the sun will all crumble.
DESCRIPTION OF THE SOOR (TRUMPET)
The soor is a gigantic horn-shaped object. The bearer of the Soor is the angel lsrafeel (alayhis salaam) who will blow the Soor at the advent of Qiyamah and again at the advent of Resurrection.
The Soor is a physical or material object. The effect of its sound will be the destruction of the universe. The Soor is not an allegorical or metaphorical description of an abstract concept. It is a real and material object created by Allah Ta’ala. Rejection of its reality is kufr since the existence and description of the Soor are facts proven by the Qur’aan Shareef and Ahadeeth. (Kitaabul Imaan )
DEATH OF SHAYTAAN
When all of mankind is destroyed, Malakul Maut (The angel of death) will, now proceed towards Shaytaan, who will be running helter skelter, because that life which he had requested from Allah has now finally come to an end. The Mala’ikah will apprehend him and beat him up with fiery rods, and thus extract his soul. The extent of pain suffered by Shaytaan in his agonizing moments of death will be the sum total of all the pain that was suffered by all of mankind during their respective moments of death.
The soor will be blown for a period of six months after which nothing will remain, except for eight things: The Arsh, Kursi, Lowh (Tablet), Qalam (Pen), Jannat, Jahannam, The Soor and the Souls. The souls will lapse into a state of unconsciousness. Even the Mala’ikah will be annihilated.
According to a narration even these eight things will become non-existent, though for a short while. When nothing exists, Except the Being of Allah, He will proclaim, "For who is all sovereignty today?" There will be total silence... Allah Himself will then declare, "For Allah, The One, The Almighty."
Then after a period known to Allah Alone, He will once more recreate the Creation; the heavens, the earth, and the Malaikah. There will be no trees, mountains or seas on the earth. The order will then be given to lsrafeel (A.S.) to blow the Trumpet again, as a result of which all the souls will return to their physical bodies which Allah had recreated. After entering the bodies, these souls will never ever leave them.
When the trumpet is blown, all of mankind will rise and proceed towards the Plains of Qiyamah. The first to rise will be Our Beloved Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), followed by Hadhrat Eesa (A.S.) and then the Ambiyaa (A.S.), the martyrs, and the pious, who will be followed by the sinners and finally the Kuffar. (As there were some confusions with regards to this passage, we decided to place a notation here. Please click here to see it.)
All of mankind will gather on the plains of Qiyamah which will be at a place known to Allah. The Sun will be lowered towards the people and will be at a distance of only a mile overhead, causing people to drown in their own sweat according to their sins.
This will be the beginning of the lengthy Day of Reckoning, "...a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years..." (Qur'aan)
Our Dua unto Allah The Merciful is that: May He grant us the true realization of the purpose of our existence on this earth, before death overtakes us; May He guide us towards repentance and reformation; May He instill the realization of Aakhira in our hearts, and May He save us from the horrors of the Day of Qiyamah. Aameen.
DETERIORATION OF THE UMMAH
Hadhrat Muaaz bin Anas (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "This Ummah will remain on the Shariat until three things do not occur to them.
1. Knowledge is not lifted up from them (i.e. The non existence of Ulema):
2. There is not an abundance of illegitimate children;
3. Cursing people do not emerge amongst them."
The Sahabah asked, "Who are the cursing people?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "In the last days there will be such people who, when they meet, curse and abuse each other instead of greeting (with Salaam)." (Durre Manthoor)
Hadhrat Anas bin Malik and Hadhrat Saeed Khudri used to say, "You people commit such deeds, the gravity of which hardly occurs to you. But during the time of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) we used to regard these very deeds as destructive (for the Deen)."
Hadhrat Abdullah bin Umar (R.A.) says we accompanied Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) on a journey when we stopped over at a place. While some companions went about pitching their tents others practiced archery. The Muazzin called out the Adhaan. I proceeded in the direction of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) who had been addressing a group of people. He said, "O people! Every Nabi of Allah who came before me was charged with the obligation of inviting his people towards good and preventing them from evil. Beware! safety and goodness will only be found in the early era of this Ummat, while the later era of this Ummah will witness severe calamities, difficulties and tribulations. Each new calamity will be much worse than the one preceding it. A calamity will befall a Mu'min and he will think that "this is the end of me". That calamity will pass on its time, only to be replaced by another one much severer and worse. Each calamity will be severer than the previous one and with the approach of each he will have the same thought that "this calamity is the end of me". At such a difficult and calamitous time whosoever wishes that his Imaan be safeguarded and that he may enter Jannat saving himself from Jahannam, then must have firm faith in Allah and the Last Day until his last breath; he should deal with people in the exact manner he would like them to deal with him. Whosoever has pledged allegiance to any Imaam (Ameer of the State), then he should uphold that allegiance at all possible levels. (Durre Manthoor)
Hadhrat Zubair bin Adi (Rahmatullahi Alayhi) says that when some people complained about the atrocities perpetrated by Hajjaj bin Yusuf to Hadhrat Anas bin Malik (R.A.) he replied, "You have no choice but to exercise Sabr. A time much worse than the present time is yet to come. I had heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) say this."
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "You people will be sorted out like dates the good dates are separated from the bad ones. Likewise the good amongst you will be lifted up (pass away) while the evil will remain. At such a time if you have to die (through grief and sorrow) then do so".
Hadhrat Ameer Muawiya (R.A.) says that, "Once during the Friday Khutbah I declared that "the spoils of war and Fayy (booty acquired without fighting) belongs solely to the Ameer. The Ameer may give from it to whomsoever he wishes and may with hold it from whomsoever he wishes". No one from the congregation objected to my statement. I repeated the same statement the next Friday and once more was not opposed. It was only on the third Friday when I repeated this statement did one of the congregants interject by saying: "We do not accept what you are saying. "You (the Ameer) are not the owner of either the booty or the Fayy. It belongs to us the people, and should any obstacle come between us and it, we will resolve it in the Court of Allah with our swords. (i.e. we will die fighting for that which Allah has declared as our right).
After the Salaat I ordered that this person be apprehended and brought to my residence. This action gave rise to a notion among the people that this person is sure to be punished on account of having opposed the Ruler publicly.
After a while another group of people came to my residence and were amazed to find that the captured person was seated alongside me and was being accorded honor. I said to them," he has saved me from ruin, may Allah grant him prosperity. (I then explained to them) I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) once saying that "After me there will be such Rulers who will utter anything that they please but none will have the courage to oppose them. These people will enter Jahannam just as people enter into any place (i.e. casually). (Fearing that I may be from one of these people I decided to put it to the test and therefore) I made this declaration, and when I was not opposed on the first Friday I feared that I must be from among those people. When I was not opposed yet again on the second Friday I was sure that I most surely must be from amongst those people. When this person objected to me on the third Friday he actually saved me from ruin. May Allah grant him life". (Tabrani)
Musa bin Abi Eesa narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) once asked. "What will happen to you (if you are alive) when your youth become immoral and your daughters and wives uncontrollable?"
The Noble Sahabah asked (in wonder arid amazement), "Will such a thing even occur?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, "Not only this, but even worse (things will occur). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) continued, "What will become of you when you neither exhort that which is good and nor prevent that which is evil?" The Sahabah (R.A.) asked, "Will such a time also occur?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, "Not only this but worse". Thereafter Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Ponder as to what your condition would be when you begin to regard evil as good and good as evil?" (Ar Raqa’iq)
Hadhrat Ibn Mas’ood (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Certain signs will be apparent before Qiyamah:
  • People will greet only those whom they know;
  • Businesses will expand to such an extent that the womenfolk will also be introduced into the businesses;
  • People will severe ties with relatives;
  • The Fitnah of the pen will emerge;
  • False evidence will become common practice;
  • True evidence will be falsified.
(Durre Manthoor)
NOTE
The Fitnah of the pen refers to the evil, shameless and deviating literature, in the form of novels, un-Islamic and anti-Islamic books etc.
OTHER SIGNS
Hadhrat Ibn Mas’ood (R.A.) says, "I myself heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying "Amongst the signs of Qiyamah is this that people will pass through the Masjid but will not even perform two rakaat Salaat; A person will greet only those whom he knows; A son will drive even his aged parents out (of the house) on account of (fear of) poverty; Naked, (scantily dressed), hungry people and shepherds will compete with each other in erecting high buildings;
MUSICAL RECITATION
Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Recite the Qur'aan in an Arab accent, and do not recite it in the tone of lovers, (musical), the Christians and the Jews.
After me certain people will emerge who will recite the Qur'aan in a musical tone and in the tone of mourners. The Qur'aan will be on their tongues and will not affect their hearts..."

NATURAL CATASTROPHES

Hadhrat Imraan bin Husain (RA.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "The Punishment of Allah will come upon this Ummah in the form of people being swallowed into the ground, disfiguration of faces, and pebbles being rained from the skies". It was asked from Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) "When will these things occur?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied: "When singing women (musicians) and musical instruments become rife and liquor is consumed in abundance".
DEPRIVATION
Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Qiyamah will not come until Allah does not remove His pious and beloved servants from the face of the earth. At that time those people will be deprived of goodness who do not regard piety as piety, and evil as evil". (i.e. it will be immaterial to them as to whether good deeds or evil deeds are being performed).
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (S.A.W.) said: "When my Ummat begins to attach importance and greatness to this world, then the importance and greatness of Islam will leave their hearts, and when they cease to fulfill the obligation of exhorting Good and preventing Evil then they will be deprived of the blessings of Wahi, and when they begin abusing each other they will become disgraced in the sight of Allah".
POMP AND ARROGANCE
Hadhrat Ibn Umar (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "In the latter period of this Ummah, there will be such people who will attend the Masjid in pompous style traveling with flashy conveyances. Their women will be naked despite having clothes on. Their hair will like the humps of weak dromedary camels. They are the accursed. Send curses upon them. If there was an Ummat to come after you then you would surely have been their slaves just as the people before became your slaves". Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "Only if I knew what Calamities will overtake my Ummat at that time when the (evil) Men (of my Ummat) will strut around arrogantly and the women will display themselves blatantly". Hadhrat Abu Ummah (R.A.) says: "I heard Rasulullah saying, Conditions will deteriorate day by day. There will be a constant increase in wealth. Qiyamah will only come upon the worst people (because all pious people will be lifted up). (Durre Manthoor)
IMITATING THE JEWS AND CHRISTIANS
Hadhrat Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "You will follow in the exact footsteps of the previous nations, to such an extent that if any one of them (previous nations) had entered the hole of an iguana, then you too will do the same". It was asked, "Do the "previous nations" refer to the Jews and the Christians?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) asked: "Who else"? (Bukhari and Muslim)
According to another narration appearing in Tirmidhi, reported by Abdullah ibn Amr (R.A.), Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is reported to have said, "If anyone from among the previous nations had openly committed adultery with his mother, then there will be people in my Ummah too who will perpetrate the same evil act.
GENERAL BLOODSHED
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "By Him in whose control is my life, this world will not come to an end until that time does not pass in which the murderer will not even bother as to why he had murdered a certain person and neither will the victim know as to why he is being murdered. It was asked as to why such a situation would occur? Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied: "On account of general anarchy" (Bloodshed). Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) further said:"The killer and the killed (of that time) will be in Hell".
NOTE
People will stoop to such bestial levels and engage in such horrific anarchy and general bloodshed that they will have no value of life any longer and each will be bent on murdering his fellow human at the first available opportunity.
Hadhrat Abu Musa (RA.) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: That time will also come upon my Ummah when knowledge will be lifted up from them and there will be an abundance of "Harj". When asked to elaborate on "Harj", Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) explained, "an abundance of bloodshed and plunder". (Tirmidhi)
According to another narration, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "That to make lbaadat in times of such anarchy carries the reward of making Hijrat towards him.

DISRESPECT OF THE MADJID
Hadhrat Hasan (R.A.) has narrated that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: that "A time will come upon people in which they will use the Masjid as a pavilion (club, or meeting place) where they will engage in their worldly disputes, and discuss worldly matters. Do not be participants in such gatherings (should you witness them) because Allah has no need for such people."
KNOWLEDGE
Hadhrat Abdullah bin Umar Al-Farooq (R.A.) narrates that Allah Ta’ala will not lift up the knowledge (of Deen) by removing it from the hearts of people, but instead he will lift up (cause the death) of those possessing Deeni knowledge gradually until no Aalim remains. At such a time people will turn towards the ignorant people in matters pertaining to Deen, seeking verdicts (Fatawa) from them. They will issue verdicts without knowledge. They will be deviated and lead others astray. (Mishkaat)
EVILS OF THE HEART
Hadhrat Huzaifa Yamani (R.A.) says I heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying that evil will enter the hearts one after the other just as straws are placed next to each other in a straw mat. Whosoever gives place to these evils in his heart and is pleased with them, then in place of each evil a dark spot will appear on his heart; And whosoever does not compromise with these evils in his heart and rejects them, then in return (for each evil rejected) a bright spot will appear on his heart and in this manner bright spots will continue to appear on his heart.
The hearts of people will then be divided into two groups: One will be those hearts which are clean and shiny like marble stone, and no harm or evil will enter such hearts; and the other will be black and rusty hearts, which are like overturned utensils, (which can hold nothing). (Muslim)
That heart which is filled with passions will never accept (regard) good as good or evil as evil.
LIFTING UP OF TRUST (AMAANA)
Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has told me two things, of which I have witnessed one and am awaiting to witness the other:
1. The Noor of Imaan will enter the hearts of people and they will then acquire the knowledge of Qur'aan and Sunnat;
2. The second thing which Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has told was about the lifting up of Amaanat, (trust or honesty, and which I am yet waiting to see).
He said, when the time comes (for Amaanat to be lifted up), a person will be asleep and a part of the Noor of Amaanat will be removed (extracted) from his heart, and will only remain in his heart to a very minute extent. Then this will also be removed and a spot which will hold nothing will be left on the place where the Noor of Amaanat used to be. Thereafter business and life will carry on normally. People will continue to frequent the bazaars, but in this world filled with people not a single honest or trustworthy person will be found. Honesty will be such a scarce quality that it will be said, that a certain person belonging to a certain tribe is an honest person’. (i.e. there will be so few honest persons that an honest person will be singled out with great difficulty). People will have such ill taste and be so short sighted that they will sing the praises of the intelligence, cheerfulness and bravery of a person whereas in actual fact the one being praised will not possess Imaan to the extent of even a rye seed. (Bukhari and Muslim)
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) was once addressing the people, when a Bedouin appeared and asked, O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) when is Qiyamah?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) replied, "When trust is lifted". The Bedouin then asked, "How will trust be lifted?" Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) answered, "When incompetent people are charged with decision making, then await Qiyamah".
REFUTING DEENI MATTERS
Hadhrat Huzaifah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "In the last days there will be certain people who will openly say that "there is no such thing as Taqdeer (Predestination)" If such people fall ill do not treat them and if they die do not attend their Janazah. They are the group of Dajjal. Allah has taken it upon himself to include them (in the group of) Dajjal one way or the other.( (Masnad Abu Dawood)
Hadhrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.) narrates from Hadhrat Umar (R.A.) who says, "In the latter days certain people will label the matters pertaining to Dajjal as fiction; they will reject the matter of the rising of the sun in the west before Qiyamah. They will also falsify the matter of punishment in the grave as well as that pertaining to Intercession and Haudh-e-Kauthar. They will reject the concept of people receiving salvation after having received punishment in Hell. (Kanzul Ummaal)
Hadhrat Ibn Umar (R.A.) also narrates that "very soon you will come upon such persons who will create doubt in the Qur'aan (by distorting its meaning to suit their own opinions). Counter them with the Sunnah (Hadeeth) of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) because only those proficient in the Sunnah will best understand the True meaning of the Book of Allah. (Kanzul Ummaal)
MISCELLANEOUS
Among the other minor signs prophesied by Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) are:
  • It will become as extremely difficult for a person to remain on his Deen just as it is difficult to hold a burning coal in the hand;
  • There will be an abundance of police; (in view of the fact that the rulers will be tyrants and in order to maintain their forceful and tyrannical authority over the people the police will be used extensively);
  • There will be an abundance of those people who recite the Qur'aan for fame, show and worldly benefit;
  • There will be a dire shortage of Jurists;
  • Ulama will be massacred in abundance and such a time will come upon them that they will love death more than red gold;
  • There will be an abundance of divorce;
  • There will be abundance of wars;
  • The female population will greatly outnumber that of the males;
  • The pious will conceal themselves while the evil will prevail;
  • Alcohol will be called "Nabeez" (i.e. intoxicants will be given a different name in order to legalize their use. "Nabeez" is a fermented beverage prepared from malt, dates etc.);
  • There will be abundance of wealth and prosperity in Arabia;
  • Interest (Riba) will be labeled as "sale" or "profit";
  • Bribes will be labeled"gifts" (Names of all these haraam practices will be changed in an attempt to legalize them);
  • People will come to the Masjid seated on thick, luxurious cushions;

THE MAJOR SIGNS
The ahadeeth of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) give a detailed account of many of the major signs of Qiyamah. Below we enumerate these signs. As the signs are mentioned, a few Ahadeeth will also be given with regard to these signs.
When all the minor signs which have been mentioned above thus far, come to pass then one can await the commencement of the major signs.
According to a hadeeth, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) indicated that at the end of all these evils, there will be an occurrence of red winds, disfiguration of faces and people being swallowed into the ground.
At this time Christian rule will be dominant. A man from the progeny of Abu Sufyaan will emerge in Shaam (Syria) and massacre the descendants of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). He will reign over Syria and Egypt.
A battle will take place between the Muslim Ruler and the Christians, after which one part of the Christian army will enter into a peace treaty with the Muslims, while the other part which will still be the enemy of the Muslims will conquer Constantinople. (Present Day Istanbul)
The Muslim army along with the Christian army with which it had entered into a peace treaty will now attack the Christians in Constantinople. After a fierce battle the Muslims will be victorious.
Some days later a man from the Christian army will announce that the victory was gained by virtue of the cross. A muslim will reply that the victory was gained by virtue of ISLAM. An argument will ensure and soon each one call upon his co-religionists for assistance until a full scale battle will be fought in which the Muslim Ruler will be martyred. The Christian army will now conquer Shaam and once more befriend that part of the Christian army from which it had broken away earlier on. The Muslims will proceed towards Madina and by that time Christian rule will extend as far as Khaibar (which is near Madina). At this point in time the Muslims will be in search of IMAM MAHDI, whom they will hope will come and end all these difficulties. Imaam Madhi will be in Madina Munawwarah at that time and fearing that the great responsibility of governing might be thrust upon him, he will proceed to Makkah where while he will be engaged in Tawaaf, he will be recognized by a saintly class known as the Abdaal.

HADEETH ON THE EMERGENCE OF IMAAM MADHI
Hadhrat Umme Salmah (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "After the death of a Ruler there will be some dispute between the people. At that time a citizen of Madina will flee (from Madina) and go to Makkah. While in Makkah certain people will approach him between Hajrul Aswad and Maqaame Ibraheem, and forcefully pledge their allegiance to him.
This person (Imaam Madhi) will distribute the spoils of war after the battle. He will lead the people according to the Sunnat and during his reign Islam will spread throughout the world. He will remain alive till seven years (since his emergence).
He will pass away and the Muslims will perform his Janazah salaat. (Abu Dawood)
According to a Hadeeth, Sayyidena Eesa (A.S.) will lead the Janazah Salaat of Imaam Madhi (A.S.) While the people will be pledging their allegiance to Imaam Mahdi, a voice from the unseen will call out "This is the representative of Allah, The Mahdi, listen to him and obey him’
This announcement which will be heard by all those present will establish his authenticity. Another sign which will indicate the authenticity of Imaam Mahdi will be that in the Ramadhaan prior to his emergence an eclipse of the sun and the moon will occur.
Once his emergence is well known, Muslim armies, as well as Muslims and saints from Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Madina and elsewhere as well as a large number of Arabs will all present themselves before the Imaam and pledge their allegiance to him.
One person from Khurasaan will prepare a huge army and despatch them towards Makkah with the intention of assisting Imaam Madhi. The leader of this army will be a person by the name of Mansoor. Enroute this army will encounter many enemies which it will overpower.
The army of the Sufyaani from Shaam will single out Imaam Mahdi for attack because Imaam Madhi will be from amongst the descendants of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). This army will be swallowed into the ground and a second army will be prepared which will consist of eighty groups, with twelve thousand men in each group, bringing the total of all to nine hundred and sixty thousand men.
IMAAM MAHDI’S NAME
The term Madhi is a title meaning "the guided one".
Hadhrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "This world will not come to an end until one person from my progeny does not rule over the Arabs, and his name will be the same as my name". (Tirmidhi)
Hadhrat Ali (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Even if only a day remains for Qiyamah to come, yet Allah will surely send a man from my family who will fill this world with such justice and fairness, Just as it initially was filled with oppression".
(Abu Dawood)
HIS FEATURES
Hadhrat Abu Saeed khudri (R.A.) relates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "Al Mahdi will be from my progeny. His forehead will be broad and his nose will be high. He will fill the world with justice and fairness at a time when the world will be filled with oppression. He will rule for seven years.
Other ahadeeth informs us that:
  • He will be tall;
  • He will be fair complexioned,
  • His facial features will be similar to those of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam);
  • His character will be exactly like that of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam):
  • His father’s name will be Abdullah;
  • His mother’s name will be Aamina;
  • He will speak with a slight stutter and occasionally this stutter will frustrate him causing him to hit his hand upon his thigh:
  • His age at the time of his emergence will be forty years:
  • He will receive Knowledge from Allah.
Hadhrat Buraidah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "There will be many armies after me. You must join that a my will come from Khurasaan". (Ibn Adi)
Abu Hurairah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "(Armies carrying) black flags will come from khurasaan. No power will be able to stop them and they will finally reach Eela (Baitul Maqdas) where they will erect their flags". (Tirmidhi)
According to a Hadeeth narrated by Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "...(regarding the rule of Imaam Mahdi) the skies will rain down in abundance and the earth will yield forth its crop in abundance, and those alive will desire that those who have already passed away should have been alive to enjoy this prosperity.)" (Mustadrak)
Auf bin Malik (R.A.) says: "I came to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) while he was in his skin tent, during the Tabuk expedition. He said to me, "Count six things before the advent of Qiyamah:
  1. My death;
  2. The conquest of Jerusalem;
  3. Mass deaths amongst you people, just as when sheep die in large numbers during an epidemic;
  4. Abundance of wealth to such an extent that if a person were to be given hundred Dinars he will still not be satisfied;
  5. General anarchy and bloodshed, that no Arab household will be spared from it;
  6. Then a life of peace as result of a peace agreement between you and the Banil Asfaar (Romans) which they will break and attack you with a force consisting of eighty flags and under each flag will be an army of twelve thousand men. (Bukhari)
Zi Mukhbir (R.A.) (the brother of Najashi) says: "I myself heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) say that you will enter into a total peace agreement with the Romans, then together you will attack your (common) enemy and you will be victorious. You will receive the spoils of war and while you will be stationed at a certain place, a Christian will rise from the army and say that "The cross has triumphed". In reply a Muslim will stand up and break the cross, causing the Christians to breach the peace agreement. A fierce battle will then ensue. (Abu Dawood)
Abu Saeed Khudri (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "He behind whom Eesa ibn Maryam will perform Salaat will be from my progeny". (Abu Nuaim)
Hadhrat Abu Umamah (R.A.) says that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "There will be four peace agreements between you and the Romans. The fourth agreement will be mediated through a person who will be from the progeny of Hadhrat Haroon (A.S.) and will be upheld for seven years".
The people asked: "O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) who will be the Imaam of the people at the time"? Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "He will be from my progeny and will be forty years of age. His face will shine like a star and he will have a black spot on his left cheek. He will don two Qutwaani cloaks and will appear exactly as a person from the Bani lsraeel..." (Tabrani)
Abu Nadhrah says: "We were sitting in the company of Jabir bin Abdullah (R.A.) when he said: "Soon the people of Iraq will neither receive any food, (grain) nor any money". We asked: "Why would such a thing happen"? He replied: "Because of the non-Arabs". (i.e. they will prevent it from going into Iraq).
He then said: "Soon the people of Shaam (Syria) will neither receive any money nor any grain". We asked as to why this would happen"? He replied: "Because of the Romans...(Christians)" (Muslim)
Other Ahadeeth inform us that:
After his emergence in Makkah, Imaam Mahdi will proceed to Madina Munawwarah where he will present himself before the grave of Our Beloved Nabi;
Thereafter he will proceed to Shaam (Syria) and as he enters Damascus he will be confronted by a massive Christian army;
Thereafter one third of Imaam Mahdi’s army will flee, while one third will become martyred and one third while attain victory;
Imaam Mahdi will then establish his rule and dispatch an army of seventy thousand men to conquer Constantinople (present-day Istanbul).
As this army will approach the huge wall which surrounds the city they will exclaim Allahu Akbar" causing the entire wall to come tumbling down; They will then enter the city and after a battle take it over and establish Muslim rule there;
Imaam Mahdi will then return towards Shaam and enroute establish Muslim Rule over all the areas which he passes.
By the time he reaches Shaam, news of the emergence of Dajjal will be received.

Sahih Al Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 610:
Narrated Abu Said:
The Prophet said, 'People will be struck unconscious on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first to regain consciousness, and behold! There I will see Moses holding one of the pillars of Allah's Throne. I will wonder whether he has become conscious before me of he has been exempted, because of his unconsciousness at the Tur (mountain) which he received (on the earth)."

It is the inviolability of the Qur'an
1. not to touch the Qur'an except in the state of ritual purity in wudu, and to recite it when in a state of ritual purity;
2. to brush one's teeth with a toothstick (siwak), remove food particles from between the them, and to freshen one's mouth before reciting, since it is the way through which the Qur'an passes;
3. to sit up straight if not in prayer, and not lean back;
4. to dress for reciting as if intending to visit a prince, for the reciter is engaged in an intimate discourse;
5. to face the direction of prayer (qiblah) to recite;
6. to rinse the mouth out with water if one coughs up mucus or phlegm;
7. to stop reciting when one yawns, for when reciting , one is addressing one's Lord in intimate conversation, while yawning is from the Devil;
8. when begining to recite, to take refuge from in Allah from the accursed Devil and say the Basmala, whether one has begun at the first surah or some other part one has reached;
9. once one has begun, not to interrupt one's recital from moment to moment with human words, unless absolutely necessary;
10. to be alone when reciting it, so that no one interrupts one, forcing one to mix the words of the Qur'an with replying, for this nullifies the effectivness of having taken refuge in Allah from the Devil at the beginning;
11. to recite it leisurely and without haste, distinctly pronouncing each letter;
12. to use one's mind and understanding in order to comprehend what is being said to one;
13. to pause at verses that promise Allah's favour, to long for Allah Most High and ask of His bounty; and at verses that warn of His punishment to ask Him to save one from it;
14. to pause at the accounts of bygone peoples and individuals to heed and benefit from their example;
15. to find out the meanings of the Qur'an's unusual lexical usages;
16. to give each letter its due so as to clearly and fuLly pronounce every word, for each letter counts as ten good deeds;
17. whenever one finishes reciting, to attest to the veracity of ones's Lord, and that His messenger (Allah bless him and grant him peace) has delivered his message, and to testify to this, saying: "Our Lord, You have spoken the truth, Your messengers have delivered their tidings, and bear witness to this. O Allah, make us of those who bear witness to the truth and who act with justice": after which one supplicates Allah with prayers.
18. not to select certain verses from each surah to recite, but rather the recite the whole surah;
19. if one puts down the Qur'an, not to leave it open;
20. not to place other books upon the Qur'an, which should always be higher than all other books, whether they are books of Sacred Knowledge or something else;
21. to place the Qur'an on one's lap when reading; or on something in front of one, not on the floor;
22. not to wipe it from a slate with spittle, but rather wash it off with water; and if one washes it off with water, to avoid putting the water where there are unclean substances (najasa) or where people walk. Such water has its own inviolability, and there were those of the early Muslims before us who used water that washed away Qur'an to effect cures.
23. not to use sheets upon which it has been written as bookcovers, which is extremely rude, but rather to erase the Qur'an from them with water;
24. not to let a day go by without looking at least once at the pages of the Qur'an;
25. to give one's eyes their share of looking at it, for the eyes lead to the soul (nafs), whereas there is a veil between the breast and the soul, and the Qur'an is in the breast.
26. not to trivially quote the Qur'an at the occurrence of everyday events, as by saying, for example, when someone comes, "You have come hither according to a decree, O Moses" [Qur'an 69:24],
or,  "Eat and drink heartily for what you have done aforetimes, in days gone by" [Qur'an 69:24], when food is brought out, and so forth;
27. not to recite it to songs tunes like those of the corrupt, or with the tremulous tones of Christians or the plaintiveness of monkery, all of which is misguidance;
28. when writing the Qur'an to do so in a clear, elegant hand;
29. not to recite it out aloud over another's reciting of it, so as to spoil it for him or make him resent what he hears, making it as if it were some kind of competition;
30. not to recite it in marketplaces, places of clamour and frivolity, or where fools gather;
31. not to use the Qur'an as pillow, or lean upon it;
32. not to toss it when one wants to hand it to another;
33. not to miniaturize the Qur'an, mix into it what is not of it, or mingle this worldly adornment with it by embellishing or writing it with gold;
34. not to write it on the ground or on walls, as is done in some new mosques;
35. not to write an amulet with it and enter the lavatory, unless it is encased in leather, silver, or other, for then it is as if kept in the heart;
36. if one writes it and then drinks it (for cure or other purpose), one should say the Basmala at every breath and make a noble and worthy intention, for Allah only gives to one according to one's intention;
37. and if one finishes reciting the entire Qur'an, to begin it anew, that it may not resemble something that has been abandoned.

    * He will be tall

  • The fire was sparked off by a powerful earthquake;
  • It spread rapidly over the mountains leaving them in ashes;
  • A reddish yellow (flaming) stream which roared like thunder was noticed in this fire;
  • Though it reached the outskirts of Madina, the wind blowing from that direction into Madina was cool;
  • The fire was reported to have been seen from as far as the mountains surrounding Makkah as well as from Busra;

According to another narration also by Hadhrat Anas (R.A.), the following signs of Qiyamah have been mentioned;
a) Increase in immorality.
b) Use of abusive language.
c) Severing of ties between close families / relatives.

"When my Ummat begins regarding five things as permissible and perpetrates them, then they will be destroyed;

Other Ahadeeth regarding Dajjal inform us that: He will emerge between Shaam and Iraq, and his emergence will become known when he is in Isfahaan at a place called Judea; (Yahudea) He will be of Jewish origin;
  • He will be unable to enter Makkah because the Malaikah will be guarding the Holy City and nor will he be able to enter Madina because there will be Malaikah guarding each of the seven entrances to Madina; From Madina he will proceed towards Shaam where Imaam Mahdi will be stationed;

2. There is not an abundance of illegitimate children;
  • People will greet only those whom they know;
  • Businesses will expand to such an extent that the womenfolk will also be introduced into the businesses;
  • People will severe ties with relatives;
  • The Fitnah of the pen will emerge;
  • False evidence will become common practice;
  • True evidence will be falsified.
(Durre Manthoor)
NOTE
The Fitnah of the pen refers to the evil, shameless and deviating literature, in the form of novels, un-Islamic and anti-Islamic books etc.
OTHER SIGNS
Hadhrat Ibn Mas’ood (R.A.) says, "I myself heard Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) saying "Amongst the signs of Qiyamah is this that people will pass through the Masjid but will not even perform two rakaat Salaat; A person will greet only those whom he knows; A son will drive even his aged parents out (of the house) on account of (fear of) poverty; Naked, (scantily dressed), hungry people and shepherds will compete with each other in erecting high buildings;

1. The Noor of Imaan will enter the hearts of people and they will then acquire the knowledge of Qur'aan and Sunnat;
  • It will become as extremely difficult for a person to remain on his Deen just as it is difficult to hold a burning coal in the hand;
  • There will be an abundance of police; (in view of the fact that the rulers will be tyrants and in order to maintain their forceful and tyrannical authority over the people the police will be used extensively);
  • There will be an abundance of those people who recite the Qur'aan for fame, show and worldly benefit;
  • There will be a dire shortage of Jurists;
  • Ulama will be massacred in abundance and such a time will come upon them that they will love death more than red gold;
  • There will be an abundance of divorce;
  • There will be abundance of wars;
  • The female population will greatly outnumber that of the males;
  • The pious will conceal themselves while the evil will prevail;
  • Alcohol will be called "Nabeez" (i.e. intoxicants will be given a different name in order to legalize their use. "Nabeez" is a fermented beverage prepared from malt, dates etc.);
  • There will be abundance of wealth and prosperity in Arabia;
  • Interest (Riba) will be labeled as "sale" or "profit";
  • Bribes will be labeled"gifts" (Names of all these haraam practices will be changed in an attempt to legalize them);
  • People will come to the Masjid seated on thick, luxurious cushions;

  • He will be tall;
  • He will be fair complexioned,
  • His facial features will be similar to those of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam);
  • His character will be exactly like that of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam):
  • His father’s name will be Abdullah;
  • His mother’s name will be Aamina;
  1. My death;
  2. The conquest of Jerusalem;
  3. Mass deaths amongst you people, just as when sheep die in large numbers during an epidemic;
  4. Abundance of wealth to such an extent that if a person were to be given hundred Dinars he will still not be satisfied;
  5. General anarchy and bloodshed, that no Arab household will be spared from it;
After his emergence in Makkah, Imaam Mahdi will proceed to Madina Munawwarah where he will present himself before the grave of Our Beloved Nabi;
Thereafter he will proceed to Shaam (Syria) and as he enters Damascus he will be confronted by a massive Christian army;
Thereafter one third of Imaam Mahdi’s army will flee, while one third will become martyred and one third while attain victory;
Imaam Mahdi will then establish his rule and dispatch an army of seventy thousand men to conquer Constantinople (present-day Istanbul).
As this army will approach the huge wall which surrounds the city they will exclaim Allahu Akbar" causing the entire wall to come tumbling down; They will then enter the city and after a battle take it over and establish Muslim rule there;
Imaam Mahdi will then return towards Shaam and enroute establish Muslim Rule over all the areas which he passes.
